I'm going to take my 3 series in for MOT shortly, and need to get a days insurance so I'm all legit taking it to the test centre.
I've had a look around and a lot seem to be saying 'car must be worth at least £XXXX' or 'Car must be under XX years old'
I'm 27 so age isn't an issue for me, but it is for the car!
Has anyone got any recommendations? As cheap as possible would be great, it's less than half a mile to the test centre!

When I was with Tesco's they let me put cover of a 2nd car onto my policy for 1-2 weeks for something like £27 or something, try your insurance company.

I googled "Day insurance" and about the third one I tried would cover older cars. Sorry if thats not much help but it worked for the Laurel.

I've used www.insuredaily.com a couple of times in the past. Never had any problems although their excess is frighteningly high (£1300 for me as a 22yr old!)

Tried these: 'The minimum market value of the vehicle to be insured is £1,500.' I like my BMW, but I'm fairly sure if an insurance assessor even managed to find it in Glass's guide it'd say it's worth diddly squat

I usually go with my insurance company. It's normally about £8.50 for a day. Don't know whether the age of the vehicle comes into it.

I would suggest that you try your insurance policy. It helps if you already have one old car on a classic policy. When I was taking the Celeste down for it's 'first [of many] MOT fails', I ended up speaking to my Amazon insurers (Flux). They had a minimum of seven days temporary insurance I had to purchase, but it was still cheaper than the same amount of time on tempcover. And legal too, as I didn't realise the minimum amount required through RSA \ Tempcover until much, much later in the day Have you not got a friend with an A frame \ trailer? Are you on good enough terms with the garage for them to pick it up? The transport 'fee' might end up being cheaper than the cost of temp insurance?

I'm in the same position - looking to pick up a motor on Thursday but MoreThan (my insurer on my daily) weren't interested. HIC were reluctant to help too.
It's the age of the motor and the value that's giving me grief...
