Funny, I'm actually starting to like Reiger kits and that sort of style after years of hating it. Must be reading too many 80's Golf mags/books like Darren! Never understood the quad square light conversions on Mk2's though

Ah ha, the section was a double page spread called 'Motorvation', I think. Any chance you could scan the Manta 'A' picture (if you still have it) ? Well, for a while they did Motorvation and Custom Profile side-by-side. Latter was B&W with more words than Motorvation. Both showed some equally daft concepts back in the early 80's. Yup, Manta 'A' will be easy to find - only saw it a couple of days ago. I'll do a scan tonight. Thinking about the quad light grilles and all that plastic stuff, surely a lot of it can be simply unbolted? Assumes that you've got original/less tacky stuff to replace it with, and that metal hasn't rotted away behind addenda fixed with self-tappers....

I loved all these things,.. was great for ideas! ,.. does anyone still do it? I saw a couple in Volksworld a while ago...

Any chance you could scan the Manta 'A' picture (if you still have it) ? Voila! Well it doesn't do much for me, I have to say. This was the only picture they had, other than a couple of shots as standard. Some of the Custom Profiles had several proposals, I well remember that for the 120A coupe.

I bought a big pile of Fast Car magazines off Ebay a while ago, all the way through the 90's I think. The older ones are quite entertaining with Dave Vizard tech and interesting cars, but there is a pretty straight 'negative gradient' to the quality with the '98/'99 ones being utter cat p1ss. Check out the shockingly poor text that goes with that Alfa 75 article.

The 'Custom Profile' in Street Machine always had a drawing of the estate version of the car converted into a van... usualy with a tube grille that covered the headlights.... ;D
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

That and gasser style, or even better some combination thereof. There was a photo of a hiked-up MkII Zodiac panel van job, running chrome 5-spokes I think, that has stuck with me for 20+ years.

spottedlaurel ...Many thanks for scaning the pic Thankyou. P.S. Not to sure I like it, seems like it's been 'Eightes-efied' then again I suppose then that would be 'Modernising' it (Notes Saab type spoiler thingy round rear window ).

I was trying to explain to a young urchin at work (who I've helped out with his car problems in the past), who wanted to show me a recent edition of FAST CAR that nowadays this mag is awful. What happened to it? I remember in 1988 they even restored an early Porsche 911 for the Pirelli Classic Marathons first year (which I saw the start of). They also used to do coverted car of the year and so on. But nowadays it's gone down the Barryboy/chav 'Sad 'n' Sour (M** P***R) route ! ...WHY!

This is from a prehistoric issue of Car Mechanics. Did they need to tell us they built it themselves? P.S. Love the B310 panel van pic's. Do I see a bit of fogging there? Rather partial to that.

Stumbled across this Motorvation from a 1985 issue of Street Machine - the Manta A is terrible, why take off the defining front and rear end and make it look like a bodged B series? I do rather like the Scirocco though, apart from the grille. Trouble is, most cars you ever saw with that wide-arch/IMSA look never really carried it off properly. Oh, and this pair of Zephyrs relate to nothing much, but I like them both a lot. Good-looking cars shouldn't really date, and I think both these have been done really well. Taken from a 1978 Hot Car.
