Ok, so basically I would like to flare the guards on my Simca 20mm per guard, front and rear.
How do I do this? I tried jacking them out, but found that they sprang back into shape as soon as I took pressure off.

Yeah, I was hoping more to stretch the whole guard for clearance. Hoping for it to look fairly stock

That only rolls the lip, rather then stretching the whole guard doesn't it?

Yeah an arch roller is the best way to do this, I have seen places advertise rolling all arches from £100-£150, not sure exactly how much that equates to in $AUS but it's pretty cheap.

I just flared mine by about 3/4 of an inch, like you the panel was to thick to safely force so I got out the grinder and cut a slit around the radius of the arch, probably 2/3rd's of it keeping the edge intact and then pulled it out to required size.. welded new metal in the newly created gap and skim of filler Job done.

Its also sometimes easier to weld an arch of a different car in.

Depends how much you want. I got my rears rolled with an arch roller (as pictured above) for £60 the pair - Rolling the inner lip up was enough. If you don't mind the paint cracking, you can really push them hard, fold the inner lip up and push the whole lot out an inch or two.
For a more extreme push, more extreme methods are needed.
PLEASE don't do it like that idiot with the ae86 did it. Cutting it was "ok" but don't just silicon it then filler over. At least weld the gaps up. A much better plan would be to find a car with a bigger lip (or form one) and weld it on, then bring the inner arch up to meet it.
The way that guy did it (despite what he says) will crack to bits as soon as something hits it. If, by some miracle it doesn't, it'll rust terribly.

Bathroom sealant?! Frig me. Why didn't he just use newspaper and wallpaper paste to make 'em... I'd be tempted to slot the arch and tap it out with a bodywork hammer (not butcher it with mole grips like the guy in the top thread) then weld it together, grind, skim of filler, paint.

I'm even down with the mole grips. But bathroom sealant? Can't weld? braze it! Can't braze? then don't cut 15 2 inch long slits in your arches then drag them out with some mole grips!

That's getting heaps closer to what I'm aiming for.

Ok, so basically I would like to flare the guards on my Simca 20mm per guard, front and rear. Nooooo!!!!!!!!!! Was afraid of that likely-hood courtesy of the Piazza. Unless you could limit it to "rolling" the arch lips. "Shallower" offset wheels? Gemini/Isuzu is 4x100 so should be plenty of FWD VW/Honda/GM/Daewoo/Toyota wheel options.

Don't worry, I don't want anything obvious, just rolled lips and maybe a touch of rounding like the karmann shown

From 'Street Machine', March '83... Not the best scan, but you get the idea...
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.
