There's loads of ker-azee peeps putting all kinds of modern v-dub diesels in their transporters - I suspect it wouldn't be noticeably more difficult (apart from the wiring side) to put in a proper one. I believe it's a case of swapping the bellhousing and the vw-world's your oyster

Having said that I'm also tempted by a cheap scooby (1.8 carb) or possibly a rotary... But they won't be quite as environmental or smelly...
