Got one of these hopefully arriving with me over the next few weeks, not really sure what to do with it, turbo weasel, a bit scruffy and might be a bit hit or miss come MOT time.... and it's a left hooker. I'm opening a big case of " Hmmmmmmmmmm" Who's running one and what do you think of it? Have a pic.... (this is not the one I'm getting)

I know nothing about them and to be totally honest, I've never even heard of one before (Mr Naïve here thought Renault gave up @ 25) but I think that rocks a BIG FAT ONE on the want scale.
Don't think Hmmmm - think YUMMMM!
Get it, roll it, do nothing to it while you plan what to do with it (only running/living with a car like that will you be able decide which direction to take it: leave standard is my gut reaction)
Thing of beauty in an odball/obscure but oh so cool & understated kind of way. UBER!

"Thing of beauty" wasn't a phrase I had associated with it , it's a frenchy in build and in registration. Guess I'll wait and see what turns up. Guy says he has a car for spares so might be able to get some trim etc as the bumpers are rusty. Aside from the tinworm I'm sure it's ok...... ... eek. Used to see lots of them about but they have mostly died out, like Renault 18s and 16s etc etc.... Here, have some pics for your troubles.

Many years ago I looked at a lovely 30TX Auto at a BL dealer. I went away to think about it, but when I went back later the same day and it had been sold! I was gutted! Like most French cars of the 70s, it was unbelievably comfy. Didn't realise there was a Diseasel version of the 30 as well as the 20, I thought the 30s all had the Douvrin V6 as fitted to the Volvo260, Pug 604 and Talbot Tagora. Lovely car though.

Thanks for the alert Trigger! Ratdat has one too!! I love them. I've always been a Renner perv, but used to consider the 30 a bit new. Then I saw one by chance and bought it for £200. I love it to bits! Mine's a TS auto (big wobbly odd-fire V6) which is really quite a big part of the car's character. I don't know what the diseasal would be like - but I'd love one! I can't afford to run the 30 as a daily driver like I used to (really - it's that bad) so an oil burner would be a great option. I hope it's not too bad come MOT time - it would be good to see another one in use! Awaiting some work at the moment (join the queue )...

i was offered one a couple of months ago from a fishy iranian car dealer.... looked good at first sight ("never been welded"), found out, that metal can in deed be fixed without welding (i.e pop rivets), the car had a massive oil leak from the PAS , in the end it was too expensive for the condition, having some other projects around here that needed work, so i stepped back. But it had a very nice interior, i really must have an old Renault in the future....

I never realised the 30 made it over here. Distinguishable from the 20 by the twin headlamps. Nice find.

I had one of these back in 1985 while i was in the army in Germany. A workmate was posted back to the UK and as no-one wanted to buy it off him i got it for a crate of beer and a Bratwurst and chips (with majonaiise ) The only French car i´ve ever had and enjoyed every minute of it. The only sofa with inbuilt v6 , not sure what they´re like to work on, when mine broke i scrapped it

not sure what they´re like to work on They're dead simple TBH. Electronics are simple-pimple. Bags of space under the bonnet and although the suspension is proper sophisticated it's quite simply engineered.

I'd guess some of them got scrapped for the transaxle. They were popular for midengined V8 kitcars. Didn't the Delorean use one too?

I've never seen one before, ever! Looks like a Gallic Passat. What kind of Turbo Diesel lump did these have? That must be mega-rare!

not sure what they´re like to work on They're dead simple TBH. Electronics are simple-pimple. Bags of space under the bonnet and although the suspension is proper sophisticated it's quite simply engineered. WOW they're FWD with longitudinal V6! This is the kind of mad French engineering which we don't get to see much of down under. Those Renault engineers really were properly bonkers. Last year a friend and I stumbled across an ancient Renault 16 in the wreckers which had the bonnet removed. We stared at it and studied it for an enlightening few minutes. Engine and gearbox in completely the wrong places, making it easier to change the gearbox oil than the spark plugs! Still, at least the hatchback body was practical. Edit: My journeys on Google have just informed me of why there weren't many Renaults sold here in Australia. As an example, the sale price here of a Renault 16TS in 1969 was as much as a Holden Premier, the upmarket luxury version of our local full-size car! Long-distance shipping and import tariffs will do that.
