My brother brought this off this very forum a few weeks ago, since his changed his mind about a thousand times about what he was going to do with it, he got extremely intoxicated off and gave it me. You'll see why in a bit.
It is a 1987 BMW 316 auto, no mod cons at all, analogue windows, sunroof, it has digital mirrors but they don't work. All though its basic, its not too bad we thought, so we had it and drove it back to Birmingham. Heres it back at the parents place.
The next day my brother took the horrible steels and trims off and stuck on some BBS's purchased about 6 months ago that have been just sitting round.
As the MOT was up at the end of June I took it down to my local retro friendly MOT station. Had a chat and a laugh with the guy who owns it and his lady apprentice and then got onto serious business. After about 15 minutes he called me over and asked if I would like to follow him into the pit as he had something to show me (Ooo err...). What he showed me was:
Just so happened the car started over heating at that time so he couldn't continue with the test so didn't charge me. Took it back to my parents and told my brother who got home that night, loaded a full M-Tec bodykit into it, a full sports interior (recaro style one) and was going to take it to the scrap yard the next day. I managed to talk him out of it though, but as he was so annoyed with it he has given it me as he just wants rid of it. A week later I brought it round to my house and put it in the back garden so I could have a proper look round it myself and assess it.
Well, went out yesterday armed with a screwdriver and had a poke around. I forgot to take pictures of all the rot on the arches, but this is what its like all over the back arch.
Got under the front of the car too and had a look. This is where the anti-roll bar rubber and clamp should be. This is the same on the other side too.
All in all, not impressed, but I don't think its destined for the frag man just yet. Putting the new metal in doesn't look that bad, its the anti-roll bar that I'm worried about. From what my MOT man said, you can't just weld some metal on as it won't be strong enough, so I may need to get a new subframe. If thats the case, I might just drop another engine in there as I think its an engine out job anyway.
Well, hopfully I'll be starting this as soon as I can get some more info and borrow SWMBO's dads welder as my arc welder is curse word.

- 2x Front wheels bearings.
- Front anti-roll bar, not connected. and it even looked like the metal has rotted/ripped off.
- Hole in the floor under the boot.
- Both rear arches were made up of expanding foam covered in waxoyl.
- Manifold blowing.
