Or how about the 'old' Toyota V8's (V series) Long before the Lexus (UZ series) was invented. Don't think they were ever imported into the UK officially. The odd Toyota Century might have slipped through though. You might have found this for your article already. Certainly demands some respect though.. V series V8 into a TA22 Celica.... Then stick twin turbos on it.... Then throw in the 4WD system off a Skyline Makes my head spin ;D toys.yackandandah.com/index.htm

Here is a complete set of wiring diagrams for a w126 (81-91 S-class) Mercedes v8. Click hereI've always thought these were great for engine swaps as they are a light ally v8 available from 3.8 litre 155bhp up to 5.6 litre 300 bhp. The 4.2 is a good bet (240bhp) - you can find and old 420SE for a few hundred quid with rusty body, but great mechanicals. The electronics could be seen as fairly complicated, but with these diagrams, the whole process is hugely simplified.

Mr Scrap, that is superb and very much appreicated. Are there any decent manuals you away of that would bolt up to any of the Merc blocks?
I looked into that PoloV8 guy but I can't access the member's cars area of the website he's on and his own website seems to be down...

They were trying to use the 3.6l 32V V8 (250 bhp iirc), mid mounted into a mk2 polo coupe. Bit daft really, and they gave up way before it got finished tho (for other reasons)

That's a great pic! Is it yours? I just ask as I'd like to steal it for my article if you have a higher res version?

They were trying to use the 3.6l 32V V8 (250 bhp iirc), mid mounted into a mk2 polo squareback. Bit daft really, and they gave up way before it got finished tho (for other reasons) They havent given up on it, its just a bit of a logistics problem at the moment..... I believe one of them moved jobs and therefore house and now they are some way apart. The project was very well thought out and done really well. They made a new subframe to take the engine and box and also hung the suspension from it ;D Originally they went looking for a 5pot or a V6, but the V8 came up at the right money so it was rude not to ;D

aaah, lots of those were taken at BVF in 2003.... (that's where I saw it)
I asked them why they did it.... the answer was simple... to scare porsche drivers! ha ha!
Awesome!

Yup, manual from a w124 (300ce or similar) would go - all similar setups. The w126 was never available with a manual gearbox, but a few were built post production with w124 gearboxes. Here is a set of workshop manuals Click hereOh look, and here is a donor 5.0v8 car for £95 Click thereWho need a manual box with a 5.0? Come on, what are you waiting for!

Wow! Thanks so much for those. I would be tempted by the 5.0 but it's a hell of a distance to get a car trailered from. Plus my girlf may be surprised when she returns home to find I'm building rather than writing about V8 conversions!

Hi, once again thanks to all of those that assisted me- I've been doing a lot of further research over the weekend and hopefully I've put together something halfway informative . One of more thing though... engine weights. Now, I've quoted each in the article but bearing in mind that I've had to get these from a variety of sources I'm not 100% confident of using them for direct comparison with one another as different places quote the engine in different states (.e. with/without fluids). So- can anyone recommend a decent site listing engine weights?

It's for Practical Performance Car- sorry, thought I'd mentioned it!
Anyhoo, still after pics of BMW, Jaguar, Merc and Audi V8's if anyone has any pics of their own they would be willing to let me use.
Feel free to mail me Weddell5@aol.com if you have any questions or contributions!
Cheers, Aaron
