Whats the best product for making sure my cosmic wheels stay on my midget when I'm not with it. Locking key type or funny socket type, or is there an alternative I don't know about. Whats everyone else using?. Some cosmics yesterday

id probably use funny socket type.. those are a child born out of wedlock to get off lol I thought so when I lost the adapter for the blts on my wife's car. Then I borrowed a proper locking wheel bolt removing tool from one of the fitters at work. Tapped it on with a hammer and the bolts were off in seconds. They offer no resistance at all to a tooled up scrote

TBH I've never really bothered with locking wheel nuts on any of my cars.
I had a car years ago that came with some fitted and I found them to be more of a hassle than anything. I've not had a set fitted on any car since.
I've always worked on the principle that if someone wants the wheels, they'll have them anyway. Not having them fitted means there is none of that risk of losing the locking key/nut especially at the time when you want to rotate your tyres/check your brakes. I know that locking wheel nut removal tools are readily availible and cheap, so like I say....if someone wanted the wheels then having that security isn't really a deterrent. An opportunist thief is more likely to go for big flash rimzzz from a modern because they percieve them to be more valuable, sellable and eyecatching. Someone specifically targeting a set a classic/rare wheels will carry the tools.
Unlike back in the early/mid 90's when wheel theft was common, I can't remember a time when I've seen a car propped up on bricks/dropped without wheels on the deck.....it seems that SatNav's & personal belongings are the new alloy wheel to thieves - either that or the whole car.
Please don't think I'm saying "don't fit them" but from personal experience I won't on any of my cars and live with the risk (which I feel to be negligable) rather than the hassle.

And you can buy said tool for about £25. Is wheel theft still a big thing?. You used to see cars on bricks quite a lot and I haven't seen any for years now. Are my wheels likely to be targeted?.

;D. How often do you leave stuff parked overnight unattended?. I know what you're saying but I have two sets of cosmics in not a very common PCD, so that would make them pretty much un-replaceable.

I think I'm from the opposite camp to a lot of you.. Every one of my wheel bolts are locking ones. 2 on each wheel are those 10 sided torx ones which scumbags don't seem to understand (from my experience with scumbags at work) and the other two are 2 different types of locking wheel bolt.
I don't take the keys out with me, because I've got no spare wheel, or jack. Which reminds me. Sort out a spare wheel!

We sell those tools at work, they are OK but hard work without an impact gun. They also generally take a while to get them to bite on, and then you aren't getting the locker back out without a vice. So to steal my wheels, a traveller would have to spend £176 on locking wheel nut removers, or bring along a mate with a vice.
If they want them, they will have them, but it's all about putting them off bothering, or making them take longer.
If you see my car with 16 lockers on, and a car with less nice wheels and no lockers, you'd just go for the easy one!

I've had a single wheel stolen relatively recently - it's certainly still a problem where I live thanks to traveller scum who don't think they should have to pay for tyres.
Two sets of "funny socket" lockers on my car - might as well slow the thieves down. But as has been said, my bro whipped four locking nuts off my Mondeo in no time, without any special tools.

I thought some nuts had a rotating sleeve on the outside to stop these being used. Incidently screw fix sell similar tools for £25.

i always fit one set of the weird bolt variety as a precaution/deterrent but like everyone says its a case of if they want them theyll have them. mind you i reckon the usual wheel theiving traveller wont know about wheel rarity/pcd etc. theyll just see an old set of small non saxo type alloys and not bother.....my tina estate had a set of capri s ronals on and never got looked at as they werent 17s or 18s

I then wanted to start cleaning the interior as it stinks of wood (the material not the smell of a boner) best quote ever!

I thought some nuts had a rotating sleeve on the outside to stop these being used. LOL, my Mondeo's locking nuts had those rotating sleeves. Took literally a couple of minutes to get all four nuts off.

I have heard in the past that some nutters have gone past this option and just removed the hubs from the car as it can be easire than trying to remove the locking nuts!

I've never bothered with any of my wheels, i've had people try and remove the door lock from the door a few times! i just make sure i know that my car is a secure car park when i got out. I'd rather pay $10 to park then have to replace window/lock/stereo/wheel etc... When it's at home i have security lights that come on if you walk in the front gate oh ye and my big German Shepard! hahaha
cheers

Forked out all of £15 for a set for mine as the local travellers/scrap collectors have been seen poking around a few times, hopefully itll slow them down a bit if they do try it.

I ain't seen any personally but I've seen about half a dozen pics in various daily papers of Bentley Continentals on bricks with the wheels half inched ... this then makes me wonder where some of the mk5 Golf/late model dub fanatics got their Bentley rims from

I got some funny socket type so that I know I didn't just give them away if they go. Why don't they have an external taper on them to stop the removing sockets working on them?.
