Shame they've used a swing axle set up tho and not gone IRS. Seems a little half arsed!

All that work and kept the worst bit - the swing axles...... amazing!

Something odd about the spring mounting arrangements too.

Sooooooo, following a sucessful drive to MK and back, pus a few local trips, I decided it would be a good idea to take it all to pieces again!

When I first started 'tweaking' this car I set about with the idea that everything I dd was 'bolt on'
and easily reversed back to standard. That kinda went out the window when I cut the arches out, so I'm slowly changing my mindset that 'reversability' doesn't count for much now!!

That has spurred me on to re-doing part of the driveshaft conversion

I've never been 100% convinced about the adaptor rings I made to bolt the inner CV joints to the Diff halfshaft flanges.
Having spent many hours pondering I decided there was only one thing for it. I removed the halfshafts from the dif and then proceeded to modify them

First up, cut off the original flange




Resulting in this



I then 'rough' machined some new flanges to be welded on
Followng welding these new flanges were then machined to fit the new inner CV joints.



All that remains is to drill the new flanges to accept the bolts and refit it all

What have I gained?

Well, there's now one less part in the drive line, which is one less thing to fail (sheared bolts/stripped threads etc) and it's also gained me an extra 3/8" of longitudinal travel, which means the CV joint that does the axial travel has a little more room to move.

Lovely conversion. This would of been the next logical step for me, glad to see you pushing the triumph boundries!

Recast the head and block in ali?

a good mod speedy as there's always room for improvment on a small chassis triumph, l've got a pair of lada track rod ends waiting for me to make an adjustabe front top wishbone.

What's that bolt hanging out up next to the spring?

Well, it's been a while bt there's more to report!

This recent gorgeous weather has been most agreeable, except with the Vitesse

It's been getting warm. Too damned warm. Not problem creating, but warm enough to affect it's running and the temp needle sitting within 1/8" of the red bit

It seems that my original thoughts on the Honda Civic radiator conversion were a little off the mark. Close, but not quite there.
Whilst the power output of the engines were in the same ball park, I failed to consider the heat soak of the massive boat anchor that is the all Iron Triumph 6 engine, as against the smaller and much lighter Honda engine. So, whilst initially the radiator did its job, as the whole engine warmed up the radiator struggled, and ultimately began to lose the battle to dissipate the heat that the heavy Iron engine held.

Sooooo, after much more research, comparissons, measurements and consideraions, a new donor was found.

Overall, the Ford radiator is marginally bigger all round than even the original Triumph rad. Sufficiently so that I had to cut a slot in the bottom of the front valance, to allow me to sink the bottom inch or so of the bottom tank of the radiator to poke through!

A little cutting and welding and we have it fitted





Almost looks original!

So far results are VERY encouraging. Running temperature is MUCH lower (even with the current lower ambient temps) and the engine is much more keen as a result
