Well, It's still not actually running but it's the same backbox that I had fitted when I took it to RRG at Gaydon a couple of years back if any of you heard it then. (I left rather enthusiastically round the service road ) It now has the tubular manifold tho and a larger bore pipe, so it may sound a little different ? I've heard varying reports on Herald/Vitesse handling. Not that I'm doubting what you're saying tho. I've still got the original, so if it is truly shocking, then I'll just swap it back. The front is already low, but I do plan to go lower, and the springs are uprated items from Jigsaw. Hopefully i can get the carbs back on and fit the fuel pump and tank and get some life out of the old b1tch this week

A bigger roll bar on the back would add balance...
Also if you swap the suspension "turrets" left to right it moves the big heavy pig iron engine back in the chassis for improved weight balance. Iirc some gentle persuasion of the bulkhead is necessary ;-)
I plan to do that on mine and relocate the battery to the boot.

Yeah, I've looked at this engine move malarky, but CBA with chopping the bulkhead about like that. Plus, with the type9 'box, I'd have to chop the chassis about to get it back in if I moved it back. Anyhooo, I've painted the bulkhead again (Smoothrite satin black), refitted the tarted up heater, made new brake and clutch pipes (one more to do), refitted the rebuilt original carbs and welded up the aerial hoe and trim clip holes

Have you redone the valve spring heights?
I might have a look at shifting the lump back when I rebuild my engine and suspension. Free handling - gotta be worth a try!
I was gonna ditch the heater and move the battery to the boot. Looks like some manifold/carb mods would be needed too.

Woo hoo, Update time. Dodging inbetween the rain, there's a little more progress. 'A' panels have been treated and 2 coats of smoothrite black applied. Fuel tank cleaned, treated and sprayed a rather fetching blue hammerite (It was already in the gun and CBA to change/clean it) New copper fuel line and flexi hoses fitted and all connected up ready to get the old gal running again Then I remembered I had partially destroyed the throttle pedal when i removed it months ago to burn the carpets. Hmmmm, maybe it's time to make that nice Aluminium one I always wanted, so, i got a piece of thick Ali strip, stuck it in the Bridgeport and I'm rather chuffed with the result; Looked a bit heavy so I hollowed out the back God willing, I'll put some fuel in and get a tune out the old gal tomorrow night *crosses fingers*

Well, she's been somewhat subborn and really didn't want to run. I threw my toys out the pram last week and nearly smashed it up after the female dog refused to run. peeing fuel out the carbs but always had dry plugs ::0 Anyways, relaxing weekend with the kids and a fresh outlook tonight. Re-timed the ignition using static lamp on points. Egg cup full of petrol down No1 plug hole, turn the key and.................. ........... (pic is clicky link to potato bucket video) Woooooooo Hoooooooooo!! It's been 2 years since she ran. Sounding lovely with the tubular manifold and a similar idle to some of the pro streeters witnessed at pod at Retro. Seriously chuffed and properly motivated now to get the brakes done and get it to the MOT station.

Cheers fellas. Well, I couldn't wait to finish work to crack on with the old gal New brake pipe made and fitted, clutch bled and tested. I moved the car under it's own power for the first time in nearly 3 years !! Only a couple of feet cos I got no brakes yet, but it at least proves that the clutch is working ok, and it's looking good for the gearbox conversion *Edit for a comedy drive around the yard with half bled brakes and sitting on the floor cos the seats ain't fitted yet !*

What colour are you planning? Leaving the surrounds off does make it meaner looking...
You won't get sidetracked refitting grommets will you?

The paint colour is about the only thing that will be standard. I got 7 litrs of Old English White with the car when I bought it, so I'll be using that up. Same as the bonnet is now Grommets?? What Grommets?

Looking good see you've de-trimmed it nice ;D, might do that too but will have to weld up the inside of the bonnet to remove the trim flange ;D think your's in fiberglass if l remember so grinding it off is no probs. Olde english white realy suits these motors ;D As for paint.....squeeze? new ford fiesta light met green with black denin interior Yep moved engine in mine right back had to cut the chassis and buck head to curse word

The great thing about OEW is that it's a very forgiving colour when it comes to imperfections in the paint/prep Anyhooo, roof sanded right back to factory primer; And in primer; I'm having to sand off all the top coats (all 4 of them, not counting intermediate coats of primer : because the paint has all crazed. I don't want that coming back through, so to play it safe I'm fetching it all off I'm undecided yet about the rest of the trim but the side moldings are definately staying off and I'm gonna put a green coachline down the side to match the wheels.

Ha ha. I did consider satin black at one point, but decided against it. Now have front wings and scuttle in white;
