Bad luck, at least they didn't get it. At least he didn't nick it, which is suprising as they're possibly the easiest car to steal ever.

Sorry to hear about that. It seems that retros are targeted by the lowlife because of the comparative ease of bypassing any security system, unlike post 1999 models which are virtually impossible to start without the key. Cant understand why they bent the steering wheel though, unless for spite because they couldn't start it.

Argh bad news mate. But lets face it, the little tw@ts fail at life if they can't even nick an '80s Ford. Best they go into another line of criminality... politician or somthing. Glad to hear the old bill were good, bet it feels good to know that they're treating car crime seriously. Hope your luck changes soon mate, sounds like you're due a lucky streak.

Yanking on the wheel to break the steering lock I'd have thought.
And while no one on here would steal a car it makes you wonder just how stupid these types are when they have to resort to bending doors etc. to get in in the first place. I opened my MK2 Golf in minutes many years ago despite no prior "thieving" knowledge when i locked the keys in it.

IMHO, stupid/incompetant car thieves are almost worse than ones that manage to take your pride and joy. Seriously, WTF is so hard about breaking into an 80s Ford and not damaging it? Nobbers.

T0ssers. Honestly. My pal's old fiesta got done exactly the same, bent the door and made off with it.
It seems your local scumbag is a bit too heavy handed, if he'd not broken the front off the ignition switch he could have started it with a flad bladed screwdriver.

But tbh, i'm more worried about serious theives breaking into the house to nick keys for the moderns than i am about them nicking the oldies. Having heard about what lengths car theives will go to to get keys.... Very bad luck though hopefully you can get it sorted quickly and efficiently.

Unlucky mate, hope it all gets sorted. Wierd though, my mates XR2 was broken into the night before and the idiots did exactly the same, bent door, steering wheel and ripped ignition off but then failed to start it and scarpered...

At least they didn't get it I guess. Glad to hear the police were on the ball on this one, normally they can't be arsed with older cars in my experience. Hope they catch the little barsteward and give them more than just a 'don't do it again'

Sorry to hear about your car. Lucky it was still there though! it makes you wonder just how stupid these types are when they have to resort to bending doors etc. to get in in the first place. I opened my MK2 Golf in minutes many years ago despite no prior "thieving" knowledge when I locked the keys in it. This reminded me of the time my mum's Nissan was broken into years ago. The thief was after an aunt's handbag on the passenger seat. They ripped the entire lock barrel out of the passenger door with a flat-bladed screwdriver, but managed to slip several times, presumably in their haste. They put several big dents and gouges in the door, and must have stabbed themselves with the screwdriver as they managed to cover the door in blood! Having botched the break-in with such flair, the thief decided to cut their losses and run off. The car got a new lock barrel and door skin on insurance but the police never did anything about finding the culprit, despite having more fingerprints and blood samples than they could shake a baton at. But thankfully, like yourself, we still have the car once it's all over.

Hope they catch the little barsteward and give them more than just a 'don't do it again' They probably would just get that. My mates 206 was stolen one night when i was round her house, they also tried stealing my Xantia but could not get it going so rolled it down the hill into the side of another house. They also stole £120 out of my wallet and £800 watch i got of my old boy and his engagement ring which were left downstairs when they broke in. They got caught as they were wearing tags when they did it so the police knew where they were and they were caught with some of the stuff. However the police let them off. A few months later i got caught speeding and had a producer. It was at this point that i realised they had taken my photocard from my driving licence so i failed my producer. I got taken to court and got an extra point and an £360 (another £300) fine. Wrote a letter to the court in a rage stating that i wanted the name and address of the kids who lifted the driving licence as i was going to go round there and take the law into my own hands as the police and court system obviously could not deal with it. After posting the letter i did curse word myself a bit, but lo and behold i got let of (well just got the £60 and 3 points). Which was at least a bit of a bonus. They get away with everything they do, but yet we are not allowed to muller the little curse word. Where is the curse word justice? Lets start a vigilante group. Sorry for the rant.

Excellent work from the police. Even if they don't catch the villains this time theres a good chance they will get arrested for being drunk and disorderly or something in the future then BLAMMMO. When they take their prints at the station they will match with the prints from all the other naughtyness. Hope they get the chair.
100% true, saw it on "police interceptors"
