Since selling the Ascona my life has been devoid of retro meaning. To redress the balance I have a new project on the way. No info yet but I have a clear idea of what I want and have started the parts gathering process.
What projects do you guys have in the pipeline?

so this is all 'planned' and 'in the mind' then, as opposed to being bought and about to begin work?
In which case, in the pipeline is; - a mini for my sister, white with black bonnet stripes and chequered roof, running on 10x6 black mambas - a early 60's or 67 vw blue Beetle, done in true Cal look style. - an early vw squareback racecar (but still street legal) on a tube chassis with chevy V8 power and a rude blower sticking out the bonnet.

MK1 escort with 2.0 pinto needing full restoration. When welding done either very big valve head and dellortos or 16V not sure yet. Was using it as an autotest vehicle but it will either get fully rally prepped or road toy. MK2 escort 2.1 pinto needs passenger floor and a few other bits of welding then possibly the big valve head I got for my my MK1 or just fit the 38DGAS to the current engine.
Opel monza 3.0GSE road car, autotester and future drift vehicle. Just on getting it ready for MOT. Welding is done needs painting. Isuzu Piazza Turbo. Few jobs left to do on it before putting it back on the road.
Isuzu Piazza LSD back axle and front hubs to go on a chevette/kadett when I find a one for the right money.
Locost kit car. Part built bought from ebay last year and plan to strip down the body tub and then build it up around myself (don't fit in caterham/locost 7`s). Then fit Sierra granada DOHC injection engine and use for autotesting.
And on Saturday pick up my new project Sunbeam with 2.0 litre pinto.
Plus quite a few modern damaged/salvaged non runner projects to pay for my other projects ;D

Planned (when I get the cash): A forward-control van. Dunno which one, probably not a VW though. Hi-Ace or Urvan or something. Lots of unique touches - I've got a little notepad that goes everywhere I do that's full of sketches and ideas Low budget, and hopefully unique. But not until next year at least...

Sorry, I can't help with the cage. All of my old Opel stuff has now been sold. There was a guy I used to speak to locally who road rallied a Kadett. If I see him I'll ask about a cage for you. No one speaks to me since I sold the 'scona though :-(
Sounds like a really interesting project. I will be watching this one closely.

Stuff that's currently planned is: Getting the interior done on the Imp (yes, I know, I've been talking about that for about a year now, but stuff keeps coming up, my lockup being robbed, my engine blowing, the fact that I've been in and out of hospital lots lately, and me being still massively short on funds keep slowing my project up), then there's the respray, (the body's being done signal red, the roof, rollcage which I haven't got yet and the Wellers diamond white), before which I have to do a little bodywork, I'm still mulling over the idea of flared wheelarches, I grudge paying the huge prices that bubble arches cost, and I want something unique anyway, so I might make something interesting up, and then there are loads of other little jobs I plan to do on the Imp, provided things go well, I have something resembling an income that allows me to buy stuff for the motor, I can keep myself out of hospital for more than a week at a time, and some other variables, I hope to have the Imp more or less complete my next summer, I'm hoping I'll be able to make it to the next Retro Cars Show, but it's too early to say really. After that there's the question of my next project of my own. Bearing in mind what my financial situation's like, I can't really afford to run another car while I still have the Imp, so it might be a few years before I have another project on the go, but current thinking is that it'll be either Imp related or Soviet, my dream next project would either be a Volga M21 or a Tatra T603-2, in the case of a Tatra I'd love to mess about with what's already there, they're almost perfect already, but with a bit of tinkering those Tatra air cooled V8s can be tuned to do amazing things! Volga-wise, lately I've been thinking I'd love to take an M21, preferably a pre 1973 (tax exempt plus can have black and silver plates) Series three model, seeing as the shark nose styling and interior are so much nicer on that model, tidied up, all the chrome redone and the body done in a deep, gloss black, the interior kept mainly standard but retrimmed in red leather, with a decent stereo hidden away under the period looks so as not to ruin the 60s Soviet feel, i.e. no modern stuff visible, possibly the stereo hidden under the face of the original radio and the speakers somewhere subtle or something, and all the carpets replaced and matching the upholstery. Then mechanically, the predictable, but these days and in the UK almost impossible, route, would be to use the GAZ G-13 Chaika or G-14's 5.5 alloy V8 and autobox, but that's predictable, I'd love to stick a Volvo 960 24valve's 3 litre straight six and autobox in the Volga, plus the Volvo's brakes, suspension etc to handle the extra power, of course the wheels would have to be changed, so a wide set of subtle, period steelies painted a period-looking silver would be employed, so as not to give the game away. Basically the look I'd love with the Volga would be total Soviet Stealth! Of course that project's a long way off, I'll probably still be dreaming about that in years to come, along with Golf R32 engine and running gear hooked up to a Barkas B-1000 and that sort of thing! ;D
