Nice one, those little rear quarter lights are called Opera Windows by the Saabisti and limited to the 5 doors and only certain years. Great motors, they feel both older and newer than the design suggests. . Puzzled as to why Saabists call them Opera Windows- as afaik they don;t open - they are just called officially (and confusingly) "sixth lights" as in most other cars that have them. Nissan 300c estate has Opera Windows - they are operated by a key

Nice one. in family door flavour too, extra quirk looks = extra points, love for the unloved? Could make a cool solid 'project' once the Benzo is back in order.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

First on the agenda is an oil change. I think this car was very well loved up until the last two years as there are bills for hundreds and hundreds. Seems like it just wasn't being used all that much of late and so didn't have the money thrown at it. Well I don't have a lot of money to throw at it either, but time and a few parts will see it right I'm sure.
It's a funny looking car - I wouldn't say it's ugly, but maybe a bit awkward, especially the back end. The 3-door was better looking I think. But I don't mind! Like reanimation says - Love for the unloved! ;D

Sills are weird on them, it isn't the obvious place directly below the door it is slightly further underneith. I was at an MOT station years ago, tester had a 99 up on the ramp, talking to the owner... "got to fail it mate, rotten sills" - pointing at the holes in the bottom of the door. Owner then opens door to reveal the (solid) sill... Cue one embarrassed MOT man! Nice motor, BTW.

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Luckily I figured it out! ;D

Stellar work! Nice colour, too. Hehe, yeah the clutch is at the...er... front of the car, near the radiator. Should be an easy swap if ever I need to do that. Funnily enough I have no idea where the gearbox is. I must look for that tomorrow when it's light... ;D It's under the engine, but separate from it. Same basic drivetrain design as the FWD Triumph 1300/1500/Toledo. But in the Triumph it's 180 degrees around. The site you want is: uk.geocities.com/saab99tips/FrmSet/FrmSet.htm Then click interior and then headlining. The 99 and C900s are very similar in many respects, headlining is one of them.

1974 Saab 99 EMSI bought a new car. It's 35 years old. My friends said I was mad. We'll see.

Top fo the transmission casing is the sump pan. No separate sump pan at all. If you need to work on the crank it is often easier to disconnect the drive shafts and shifter and pull the whole lot then split later. But it makes a heavy lump to move.
Oil dipstick is on the passenger side/intake side. Transmission dipstick is on the drivers/exhaust side.
Engine is technically a Hemi I think too.
