Had a play with the Singer over the last week or so , Clutch master cylinder has been leaking and the brake master has too big a bore which makes the pedal really hard so ive replaced them both , ive also moved the reservoirs upright as they should be , They are from a Jag XK150 but only one per Jag , also made two new pipes for them as well Old position New one

Well this thing has been a nightmare lately , went for a spin to the coast Sunday night only to blow a headgasket on the way home , ive been expecting it for years TBH . Engine came from a car i scrapped 6 years ago , just bunged it in and never even took the head off Head was removed but not before a headbolt snapped off , Gasket looks to be an original one and i don't think the heads ever been off , it didnt blow as such , just disolved of old age . Still in the interim years I had fully rebuilt another lump as standby so out with the old , in with the new , so far ive done 50 miles although this " running in " lark is pants My powdery gasket is no more , I recon i could reuse this with a bit of hylomar ;D ;D

Now done 330 miles , rejetted the twin SUs to suit the new engine , so far all is going great apart from the gearbox which only now decides to play up , may have to pull the engine out yet again for a box change Still on a plus note ive managed to fit additional springs in both front seats as these being over 40 years old have had it , i left the original springs in place and fitted the two extra ones in the centre section where theres most strain , came from a scrapped Prelude . spring sat on top shows the rather strange shape of the newness springs www.daagl.eclipse.co.uk/impclub/seat repair.jpg[/img]

Well as always this has been somewhat stuck on the backburner , new engine has now done over 800 miles and is running superbly , best lump ive rebuilt to date , Ive replaced the wiper wheelboxes as Ive done on my Commer and redone the engine cover soundproofing , This was done from the factory using fire retardant muslin which ive managed to find in Germany, reused the original soundproofing just recovered , Mrs Remmoc did the sewing ;D As it was , not looking good and disintigrating before my eyes Newness , much better methinks

What a great motor. A credit to you and your hard work. Thanks for your kind words , this has for years been a third car , therefore ive no need of it so it just sits about , recently though ive rekindled some interest in the old girl and started to sort stuff out , have a tidy up and generally use it far more than i have , I'm starting to enjoy her more and more as stuff gets sorted

Gearbox seems to have healed itself Also fitted a high level brake light , I'm not a lover of modern things on old cars but everyone expects high level brake lights so ive relented Also fitted one on my Imp van , somewhat harder given an opening tailgate , a more retro bulb type on this one Just in case your wondering what the Imp van looks like here it is out in the snow last year

Had a play with the headlight bowls on the Singer , problem is although the headlight brackets are handed the bowls arnt so the cable comes in wrong and the cutout I did for easy bulb change is in the wrong place because of this . I got an old passenger headlight bowl and started hacking way First off drill new cable entry hole , this is flared so took a bit of doing Then hack one side off for the bulb changing mod Blast and powdercoat at work Fit a nice edge to the cut part and refit Heres how it used to look , you can see how the wires come in on the wrong side , the bulb changing hole is in the wrong place .

Superb stuff , bulb change mod is a great idea. Chamois is looking stunning, love everything about it, suits those Alleycats, stance is perfect, love the full cage too. Van is looking great , those must be getting rare ? (as with Huskys), i owned one briefly a while ago (when i was into Imp's), it was MOT'd but really needed restored

Every time I look at a really nice Imp I keep thinking I need one back in my life again. A 1965 Chamois Sport in Forest Green would be nice. Still have all the books and a load of service items from when I sold my last one - held on to all the books in case I ever came back

This is rather nice too! Love the mods and upgrades you've carried out. Regarding the high level brake light, could an led unit be positioned inside the air extractor vent? I don't suppose there is easy access, so it would take a bit of thinking about. The bulb changing mod is pretty impressive too, especially repositioning the wire access hole. Most people would have re-routed it through the large aperture. Very thorough attention to detail.

Regarding the high level brake light, could an led unit be positioned inside the air extractor vent? Very Nice idea . I think its possible , its finding the right unit to fit , access is very limited behind but nothings impossible , the one fitted is basically stuck on so no permanent damage and could be removed if i can find one to go in the vent. Youve got me thinking big time now ;D
