My mate is being given a Fiat 125 by his brother in law. It was parked up a couple of years ago and was apparently original and mint. It needs very little to get it MOTd. So, in the interest of modding it, what can be put in it engine wise, and what mechanical bits are swappable? Oh, and here's some random pics.

I know Simon Goldsworthy from Practical Classics (now in MG Enthusiast) had a PSO version, it wasn't very rust free though! But then they are prone to it.

Can't tell you much other than the fact that they were also an FSO... Mhm.... and VAZ 2103/2106 Majority of these have either rusted into oblivion or have been molested 'modified'

You will find that the Lada is based on the superior Fiat 124 platform. The 125 had a leaf sprung rear against the 124 coil. The FSO is based on the 125. The factroy built a 125 S model which had a different grill and a 5 speed gearbox. Some later 125s had tombstone front seats. Fiat NZ built the racing version 125T this was never officially sanctioned by the factory but had a tuned twin carb motor, lowered suspension a larger fuel tank for the endurance races and often a black painted rear panel below the boot. And some other stuff. Like all Fiats they can rust but the mechanicals in form or another went through to the 1980's.

I knew Lada had to be superior, not sure to what though ;D Every day is a school day for me! As it happens 2103 was the fist car I've even driven, as highly regarded as it was in Soviet Union I'd rather have a restored and modified VAZ2101 or GAZ24, but I digress.

Sell it to me! Should have a 1600 twin cam in it. They're cracking engines but parts aren't easy to find if it even needs a rebuild.

Parts are a pain in the , our Morgan runs a 2 litre in it, and the odd things are starting to become a hassle getting, i wouldnt like to have to rebuild one after its gone bang, having said that, they are stunning engines!

A friend of mine had one in the 80's a 125 Special T and that was 5 linked as standard with a 1600TC.
Quality and rare car back then so must be poor quality wobbly children's play pony now!

Ha! I've never thought I'll hear about the 'cupboard' around here. The FSO version was called 125p, 'P' standing for 'Polski'. Anyway I recently heard a rumour about a batch of the 125p PICKUP that were made in RHD! Apparently for some reason they made them for export (don't know why) and instead of sending them out they were distributed around some socialist government farms. I will be investigating the rumour soon as they tend to be dirt cheap and virtually any FIAT related engine fits in. For now I can just show you what an old FIAT 125p can look like... From my mate's photo session for an album Truly Gangsta! ;D
