On the weekend (see post in general) I picked up my new project, a 1974 (my75) Saab 99 EMS.
The EMS is the 99 Turbo sans turbo. Same interior, same Bosch k-jet mechanical fuel injection (early EMS's had d-jet which is EFI), same "sports" suspension, etc.
Engine-wise it seems pretty strong. It starts first crank (fingers crossed) and has way more power than it seems like it should.
Cosmetically its on the rough side:
If the paint had just crazed and weathered, I'd leave it alone. But it's beginning to rust through. Also, on one side, it's actually good. Clearly it had been parked for years with one side the north and the southern side is not crazed. There must have also been a small hedge near the northside door as its shiny along the lower half. Mad.
Could it possibly be anything else?
I'm going to have to get the sticker/badge remanufactured. But it's so cool, I won't mind.
I'm thinking I'll have to spray it myself, which I've never done before, or it will cost me significantly more to have the car sprayed that it's worth. There's overcapitalising and then there's overcapitalising.
But, I didn't buy a semi-broken needs-some-restoration car expecting it to be skittlebrau.
Stay tuned for more pics!
