So the sun came out last week and I had nothing to thrash around in, so I got twitchy with the 'bid now' button. I'm now the proud owner of another 205 GTI and off to fetch it after work.
It's in Aldershot, 130 or so miles away and I'm going to get in it and drive it home.
So the question is - 19 year old Peugeot, what will break, fall off, catch fire first ??

I'm gonna go with back axle falling off followed by the engine loom catching fire. Good luck

Are you getting the train down? If so chances are that'll be more unreliable/uncomfortable than the pug on the way back!
Good luck

It appears that I'm the most pessimistic person on RR then as I don't expect to get north of the M3 !
Will pop in on the way home Si as long as things are going well and it's not on the back of a truck...

The gear linkage will be so worn out you'll not be able to get it going off the guys driveway - you'll get frustrated, slam the door, and the offside mirror will fall off...

My guess it the brakes will decide they don't like stopping the car or the wheels will actually fall off clown car style.

exhaust for sure. there'll be a squeak from the offside rear suspension that will annoy the life out of you, and the radio will have useless reception. oh and the rear wiper blade will be totally done and the rubber might fall off

If we're on the subject of French 'fun', my C4 key literally distintegrated in my hand. The metal shank still starts the engine though, and the board still works.
Now on the spare key. That I have to open on the NS. Saving money on a RHD conversion were we?
The case has cracked and a tiny sprew on the spring button that holds the key blade in the back position has broke so it won't retract.
And I bet Shitroen won't sell me a new button. VIVE LE FRANCE.

Progress report - arrived back safe and well in a little under 2 and a half hours. First part of the journey was fairly tentative along the M3 for 4 junctions watching all the dials like a hawk, the bonnet for steam, flames etc. Round Newbury alarm bells started ringing about the rad fans working but no worrys. A34 to Oxford in a thunderstorm, in a 205 great, but she still soldiered on and by the time I'd cleared Woodstcok it was clear and dry. 40 odd miles from home and the A3400 was empty, frapping fantastic !! Gave the old girl a beating and she revelled in it. Just hooned along but being a 1.6 not at stupid speeds, and really involving with a seized beam and knackered front dampers.... Pretty much bog stock 1.6 GTi, except for a silly back box but even that's not too bad. Needs a drivers seat repair or replacement, front dampers, and a rear beam service. Other than that I intend to do absolutely nothing with her except for drive it and enjoy it. Just what I wanted to be honest, a light relief from all the Mondeo drivng I've been doing lately. Yay for retro !! ;D
