In "real life" it does definately look more orange than before. I think playing with the depth of the two colours would get the right result. Certainly enough to avoid 5-0 and get thru MOT. On a Pug and similar cars the lense is actually orange but with red "pinstripes" on to give the appearence of a red lense. The rear of the pinstripes are reflective so the light only shines thru the orange bit.

Pretty sure some peugeots use green bulbs. Seen some in the scrapyards.
However, i've used green tint with red lights and it didnt work very well.....as stated above it did come out a bit more orange than the brake lights, but not perfectly orange like a standard indicator.
I'm gona be doing it again with my mk3 golf....and this itme I think ill make sure I put a good few layers of the green tint on the bulb before trying it out.

I'll have to give this a try as the lights on the polo are all red and I've given my spare 'mot' rear lights to a mate ! Most of the motor factors around here sell green bulbs for the chavs

I started this debate in another topic a few months ago. I'll clear up what I said back then My missus has a mk4 Polo, the rear lights are pretty boring and I had read that you can fit Mk5 Polo rear lights (All red) So in my hunt at the scrap yard I came across a smashed up mk5 polo, I started to take the lights off. When I had the second one off it was rattling, I looked through one of the bulb holes and loads of broken plastic fell out, this plastic was green. I looked at the other non broken one and could see there was a piece of green plastic (filter) behind the lens. Hope that helps

you guys are all missing a simple trick! the way i always do mine is to sand the lense with an orbital sanber first, this turns the amber lense an opaque and very light amber colour. whats the point in that? Well seing as the amber is now a lighter shade, you only need two very light coats of red tint spray and a couple of coats of laquer to turn them red. Because the coat is very light, it doesnt affet the illumination colour, so your indicators will continue to shine amber, clever eh?!

I've got tinted all red rears on my Mk1 Golf Cabby. I couldn't find green glass paint so I bought some green bulbs off ebay (just ordinary bulbs painted green!) The paint is very dark green, and quite thick, so much so that people couldn't see my indies during the day. I scraped a little of the paint off to make them emit more light and they are better. Still a lot redder than with an amber lense, but definitely more orange than the stop/tail lights. I'll try and get a picture when it goes dark. Also the MOT is due at the end of the month, so I'll chance my arm and see what they say

I'll be interested to see what the results are like as the Merc has all red lenses on the back! I do a lot of miles and getting pulled by the old bill doesn't really appeal (especially as the wheels protrude beyond the arches as well!)

Ah, this old chestnut!
I tried and failed a while ago to do this on the Passat. I bought some green boy-racer bulbs from motorworld. They did flash orange (well, a kinda red shade of orange) but they were so dull they were nearly useless in daylight.
As stated above, I've seen various smashed rear lenses in scrap yards, and they all seem to have a little green plastic filter over a clear bulb (Polo GTI, Audi 80/A4, Passat B5...) I guess if you could get the filters out of an OE cluster, they'd be the best thing.
Would coloured LED bulbs be any better?

Some 6n Polos came with green tinted rear lenses but I can't find a photo here in work. It was a particular model/trim pack, no idea how the bulbs worked though
