406 prices have started to fall well 1.8 16V and 1.9TD as they are a little under powered for such a big heavy car but they are still well worth getting. Xsara`s are like xantias the petrols sell for pennies and the diesels are worth a mint. A lot of people still go under the assumption that citroen makes the best diesels which is why you still see m-plate xantias up for sale for over a grand Xsara`s are still a good practical everyday car though. Just to keep this thread vaguely retro My idea of an ideal daily multi purpose everyday vehicle would be a MK5 tina estate fully polybushed uprated but standard height suspension and Peugeot 110 HDI engine. ;D

The prob with the pissrat is that I'd have to either dig deeper into my pockets (like that's gonna happen) or opt for the older (91-97) model. I would struggle to convince SWMBO that buying a car older than what she has now makes sense.
PhoenixC - that sounds like one proper weapon... HDi Tina would rule. The HDi is a honey of a diesel engine. I used to have one, but it was sadly wrapped in a berlingo van.

Mate of mine had a Xantia, he loved it but I didnt' Pug 406s seem OK from what little I know of them... I'd be tempted to look at other non-French diseasels (sorry, Francophiles!). I mean, how 'bout one of those Nissan Maximas? Or a Primera? Or a Camry or something? Dunno if they did diesels though. I really rate Primeras, great to drive for what they are. Actually, when was the last time anyone saw a QX? 'It exists', apparently, but I haven't seen one for a LONG time. Just realised that this is probably the most useless post I've ever made on here... I blame the Jagermeister...

I was stuck in traffic behind a QX today in Ipswich. Not great looking from the back, but that's the only view I got of it. You don't see many about, I think this one was a V6 petrol, not sure if they did a diseasel

Mate of my brothers had the roughest Xantia on the planet. He's a farmer and a renowned car breaker and i don't mean dismantler, he once brought a sick sheep to the vet with it, it didn't have a towbar so he put the sheep in the boot... and never bothered cleaning it afterwards. He's got an Avensis now which has defied all attempts to kill it.
