due to circumstances i'm having to sell my little camper, this is really gutting as I was hoping to get it all roadworthy and use it for weekend shows rather than trying to squeeze tents and other stuff in my capri. right the good bits first, this is a martin walter converted ha viva van/bedford beagle, all the tags are still on it and I do have other photos to put up but can't remember what file I put them in, when I find them I will post them up as soon as I can. the car is complete, the rear door and lid work and the cloth is untorn, and the hammock inside still works well, it has a sink, new cooker, etc, etc. right now the bad points I don't have a log book for it, I was going to take the rubbings and photos i've taken of all the vin plates to the local dvla orifice to see what I needed to do to get another log book. it won't start, but will turn over. think it's something in the ignition also I don't know how rusty it is underneath, from the top it appears quite solid and there's no visible holes in the floor,but I know with these old vauxhalls that doesn't mean a thing. and it really needs a clean if anyone is interested it will need picking up from suffolk £100 ono any questions please don't hesitate to pm me or reply and i'll get back to you as soon as I can

Hey everyone, why not assume its gonna need a load of welding, its a 40-yr old bedford van for £100 FFS. If the arches and 'general structure' do not end up needing a load of mig wire in 'em you'll be doing extremely well.

Well said, in my experances of HA's (too much experance bad ) they all rot from the inside out, so don't take the outside view as what you might get, I am staying well away from it for that exact reason.

Am I the only one mildly curious why its apparently on a Bedford CF log book?
This is not a dig at the vendor here, but I'd check the VIN on the log book and the vehicle match...
And TBH its entirely possible that this is case of "switched at birth" - I'e heard of that before especially with odd stuff like conversions. Theres other posibilities and the DVLA are getting hot about this sort of thing now...
Oops, re-read and there is no log book. Even murkier. I suspect someone's CF got tax exempted off this as a V5 donor...

Even if the body is beyond repair, the camper bits would be great to covert a sound van to camper spec.

TBH I think thats the best plan. With the oddity of the registration I'm not sure I'd want to take that anywhere near the DVLA.
You may be lucky and get a Q plate but theres a more than even chance of them calling it a ringer, or a V5 donor which is fraud, CDO and then crush it. Ouch.
Find a decent HA van with a V5C and transfer the whole conversion across is the safest option.
Its well worth the asking price for that IMO.

Id wager that is the original registration, if theres enough evidence to back it up (old tax discs e.t.c) go and register it and seriously ruin some CF onwers day when the DVLA send them a letter revoking their reg... possibly.

Could be that a CF owner has stolen the identity from this Beagle for the tax free status, than scrapped the beagle without taking the VIN and number plates off. The scrapyard then have sold the Beagle on instead of scrapping it.
Seeing as the CF details above say it became unregistered in 2002, i would personally be asking that the reg stay on the Beagle (as long as you have old documents or the VIN is still intact)

sadly the DVLA don't tend to see things that way. Vehicles involved in registration fraud/ringing are usually given a CDO - Compulsory Destruction Order. I can't recall if you are allowed to removed parts from CDO cars before they are crushed or not. A lot of those fancy cars you see getting banger raced and you wonder how come the guy bangering a 1928 Dodge Brothers 6 light Saloon can afford to buy such a car to banger? CDO usually. I used to know a few people who used to (and probably still do) get some real nice cars from DVLA/Insurance closed trade auctions which are CDO and have to be crushed. A trip round the oval first and then thats what happens.
IMO this van would be a great donor to turn a regular HA van into a Camper. I would personally not get into the nightmare of its registration status unless theres plenty of documentary evidence in a format acceptible to the DVLA to prove that this is all something innocent.

Where does this CF business come from? The DVLA record has it down as 2279cc but that could easily be corrected surely.

exactly, all the parts on the car match the vin plates, engine' chassis, etc. nowhere does it say cf on the dvla can only assume it is one due to the 2.3 engine. so there should be no real problem taking it or the photos to a dvla centre and getting it sorted out. anyway all pm's replied to
if it's not gone by the end of the week it'll have to go on ebay or begrudgingly to the banger racer who is currently waving cash under my nose i'd sooner see someone put it back on the road or use it for parts to save another camper
