and is the car taxed? There is no excemption for driving with no tax disc...This quote from a copper commenting specifically on driving to the MOT with no tax disc in the window.... "with No VEL, dependant on the circs and when the VEL ran out, there is good chance that it will actually get seized, by DVLA staff or Police at the roadside, dependant on you the being able to pay the release fee/surety of around £260 and then getting the car taxed after the MOt is issued and getting the surety back "
I'd hate to meet him on a bad day...
But there are exemptions from having a tax disk
You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station provided you have adequate insurance cover in place for the use of that vehicle.
This also applies to vehicles being driven to and from a prearranged test at a Vehicle Inspection Check (VIC) test station, an approved weight testing station and reduced pollution test.
Quote taken from Directgov here#
edit - I wonder if the copper was referring to stopping someone who claims they are going for a test but has not or cannot prove they have prearranged the test?
thats well worth knowing. I was unsure what the proper legal position was on tax. I know its OK on the MOT and you must have insurance. Seems tax is OK too. So long as you are prebooked....
