spose I better update this, eh? okay. so finally work on the hard tail. first job was to swap the swing arm with the one off the sr250. then cut it and extend it by 7 inches. then brace it and tack the top bars into place. then bend and tack the lower beams of the hardtail and remove the remains of the swing arm. then weld fully (after checking that everything that was inline, level and straight.) then dump everything back on so you can begin to see the scale of things.. made all the bracing for the back. then my dad thought it'd be funny to nick my camera and take photos of me.. think I'm gonna end up using pistons out of the old pop engine as brake/ tail lights and indicators (both incorporated in one) I likeee itt the seat.. sprung by 2 leafs out of the front spring of the pop. held it just right, and is nice and is just right for the job the front of the springs are set into the front bar to hold it a bit more secure. will be making a clamp to hold the back of it next week when I get some aluminum my dad likes to take photos of me making sparks. lol. then I got it out of the jig and outside cut. tack. weld. cut. tack. weld. cut. tack. weld. using a different tank now.. just 'cause it its the bike better in my opinion. How sexy is that?? I'm well happy its nice to have the garage back. lol I might give it a rest for a couple days.. or I may not. lol. it depends how I feel. I was feeling horrible buy the end of today. probably 'cause I haven't slept much. lol next jobs to do are... take the rear wheel out. and the engine. flip the bike upside down. and do the rest of the welding, make the brackets for the seat (and cut the spring down.) make mounting tabs for this tank, and buy loads of grinding wheels and start rounding things off and smoothing things out. then when I get all that done, I can start playing with other mounting brackets. like for cdi, coil, flasher unit, things like that.. I need a 428 chain (or 2) so I can make the chain guard and position the battery box and such. of course so I can ride up and down ma driveway comes in to it too . keeping an eye out on ebay for that. then... paint.. paint.. and more paint. -Liam

TBH? I wasn't exactly keen on the look on the first page of this thread but JEEEEZZZZZO! The lines look spot on, the whole shape is well smart!!
One of the best 'home-made' Bobbers I've seen in ages, especially considering it started out as a dirt bike.
Goes well with the Pop too!
Top work mate!!

update: I loved it when it was at this stage, with dirt bike wheels and tyres etc, I'm not feeling it so much now. Don't get me wrong, its still a great project and some fine skills and thinking going on there but when I saw these pics I thought there was so much potential for something really special

Thats why its lucky we've all got different tastes henry, personally i think it looks amazing now compared to how it was. It takes a lot of vision and forward thinking to take a trials bike and build it into what it is becoming. I think it looks great Ryan, whats the plan for the exhaust?

tbh, I don't really know. I'm thinking black frame with lime green with purple scallops for the tins and purple wheels or something.... something a little different ;D Thats why its lucky we've all got different tastes henry, personally I think it looks amazing now compared to how it was. It takes a lot of vision and forward thinking to take a trials bike and build it into what it is becoming. I think it looks great Ryan, whats the plan for the exhaust? um.. Mitch.. whos Ryan? .... I'm Liam. lol. but yeah, I agree. the different tastes in this country are what make the car and bike scene so great. ;D and the exhaust... well.. I would show you in a pic, but atm, the bike is stripped right down, and upside down. basically, its gonna have a cone effect with a slash cut and maybe a super trap muffler down it and all matt black (and if I can get some, some heat wrapping around the manifold). hopefully giving a nice deep burble taa -Liam

** update time ;D ** rear mudguard take a normal trailer mudguard... cut slices into the sides so you can fold it together to get it to the right radius for the wheel... tack together and cut a lump off the end. then cut 1.5 inches out the middle to narrow it. weld up and grind down... picture of the whole bike... and my latest photo shopping, which its looking like it will be the finished product. ;D there was more that happened.. but boring stuff... taa -Liam

Hi Liam I ride an SR250 1980 everyday and I have most of another in pieces - including a 16 inch chrome-rimmed rear wheel which will have the same fitting as your XT125 wheel I think. You can have it for free if you want it? Any other bits you want from an SR250 that I have spare are yours too, I have a complete engine but it is stripped and fairly worn and the exhaust pipe comes out the right hand side of the frame. I don't have and forks but do have a 19 inch front wheel - lloks lie you have a 21 inch wheel already anyway. I am coning down to Suffolk (near Ipswich) in the next few weeks if you want me to drop any bits off, otherwise I am in North London. As I say, I don't want any money for any of the bits - juts like to see them used. Good luck and let me know. Slim 07896 921115 mobile

update again.. nothing big unfortunately.. I now have the bike up and running again... but there's a difference.. I now have the 250 exhaust manifold on it... boy does it sound better! there is a restriction in the pipe taking the diameter of the internal pipe down to what it is on the original 125 manifold. so no loss of back pressure there and the addition of a cherry bomb (originally got for the pop but its now been donated to the bike fund.. by myself.) that slots onto the exhaust exactly right.. makes it sound perfect. thought it may be a little loud.. so I might be making some mini baffles to go inside the exhaust just to quiet it down a little (it will be ridden around a cop infested town for the majority of its life... and I don't fancy a £30 fine for what could be a few mins cutting and welding. ) also I de-seamed the tank.. just for a cleaner look... that took ages. and in the process made a new rear mound for the back half of it..just trying to work out where to put the front ones.. on to the pics! photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs159.snc1/5930_129379518454_768393454_3328448_5556477_n.jpg[/img]and now.. I need your help. colour choice for rims... black.... or chrome?? (you may also spot the tops of the forks are also black/ chrome.. this will depend on the rim colour in the future. ) thats all for today.. the exhaust will be messed around with soon. as well as more brackets to hold things like the cdi, horn, rectifier, flasher relay.. etc etc.... this will be fun... more as it happens people.. -Liam
