odd request I know but.. Just bought a genny and about to buy a transfer box both of which will be bolted to the bus. Tick over on the perkins motor is about 800 and the genny needs 1800 Apparently tractors had a gearbox on the PTO of about 1.8 to 1 which may well do the job. May also need a prop or two to link all this up.. help please

not an ideal solution but if you got a car diff like a granada or other inboard driveshaft type one and fixed one shaft in position it would double the speed of the remaining output shaft , and seeing as most diffs are approximately 4-1 or around that sort of figure this would give you a gearbox albeit with a 90 deg difference in the output/inputs but of approximately the right revolutions, so spimply mount it back to front or whatever way it would need to be and bob's your uncle, this also means you can use standard car props/driveshafts for the power transfering..
just an idea mind, Ive never actually done it !

now there's an idea ;D perhaps I could use both driveshafts, one to compressor and one to genny, lock off the one I don't need at the time ;D mmmm thinks how.. OK, so who has a diff etc?
