I had the SIP gasless one - I was kind of used to the constant live. It did a terrible job of my arches, which are now coming away from the body. My advice, go for gas welder, gasless is like a chocolate fireguard. It's for people who love mediocre welds. I currently have the Clarke 150TN in the picture above. Haven't used it, but tested it, and it looks good. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

The constant live bothered me quite a bit - I use the end of the wire to place the tip on the work before striking up but with a live torch you just sort of go at it and hope ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) I suspect the problem with your welds is that what looks like weld is actually mostly slag (which needs removing in the same way as with ac welding) cos I got a good weld from GJM's little blue thing, and that was gasless. If you had the sip with no wirefeed control however, my condolences to your arches. its only got 2 settings, (s)not good enough and too much!

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

I got okay welds, but the piles of slag I had to remove with an angle grinder. Mine had hi and lo, you pressed the button, and hoped for better than worse. And the wire got trapped all the time in the spindle. I went through metres and metres of wire wasted pulling it through.

Hmmm, methinks I might be half way to sorting out my gas flow problem ;D Found a bag of 'clunky' things at work!! Turns out to be a full set of regulators for gas bottles, oxygen, nitrogen and CO2WIN ;D Next job is to smile sweetly at the landlady of my regular lemonade stop and offer to spend a weekend as cellarman, and help her tidy up all those nasty gas cylinders she has ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

OK then. *Boywonder asks politely* Also I assume that the connections/threads on CO2 bottles are all standard? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) Apart from the piddly 'ikkle halfords ones of course

If people want advice on welders I can recommend this place - www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/index.phpI used it before I bought mine and it seems to have grown a bit since then. Also there's a fix for the SIP dodgy wire feed on there somewhere.

What about having lots of "RR welding schools" all over the country? Could do with one in or near Hertfordshire. Anyone? "I'm" ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)
