I got this Bike given to me 2 years ago and it looked like this.
I stripped it and it lay in bits, until now, as I've got around to do it...
I decided making a start on the C70 again, after my mojo returned after the winter. This will be no immaculate moped, it will be done on a budget.
Plans:
To restore to MoT standard to be used as cheap transport alongside the Chevette
To finish before the summer
And the hardest... to restore on a shoestring budget.. less than £500!
To start I pulled the stripped frame down off the wall and started repairing a small hole in the arch. Rust treatment and chemical metal, as it was such a small hole:
I then started to rub the frame down (I already had the sandpaper) and painted it with a few coats of primer. I am doing it in sections and so far have done 1 side
The rear mudguard on these bikes, is always rotten/dodgey and this was no exeption. It was badly filled with chemical metal, so I chipped it away, rust treated it and re-filled it with chemical metal, and rubbed it down. It does still need some finishing, which I will highlight in the next installment.
Next up was the parts, that I had stored away. Here we have the kick stand, front panel, and various other bits, painted with primer or black Halfords spray.
I am most proud of this. I managed to get the front panel completley smooth, and all of the rust off it, and primed
I then cleaned the sidelight and chrome strip with Autosol (which I had lying around) and came up very well..
Then the parts which I had ordered from wemoto (whom have excellent service, highly reccomended) arrived to rebuild the engine. Full gasket kit, and oil seals, gear lever and Kick start (both were broken)
Spent so far
1 Filler Primer, 1 Primer, 1 Gloss Black £20.97
Parts from wemoto £45.87
Total So far £66.84
Next installment:
Engine rebuild
Frame Preparation
Front forks Rebuild
