Hello all in retro land, thought you might like to see my jag that does upset the old duffers at the jaguar meetings, its a bit different but unless you know jags you would think its a normal xj40
Ive had the jag for 5years and it was brought to replace a 1988 mint 3.6 sovereign that was written off by two young illegal immigrants in a wreck of an escort when they shunted me from behind doing 50mph in a 30 limit, needless to say the escort was destroyed in the impact and the boot of the jag didn't open but that was enough to write it off.
After 6mths I eventually got paid out and spent ages trying to find a decent car to replace it and this one turned up for the grand total of £1500,it was a good runner but needed a tune up and some of the electrics sorting. WELL THATS HOW IT ALL STARTS ISN'T IT.
Over the years its suspension has been stiffened with neoprene racing bushes, the shocks replaced with kybe gas units and the brakes uprated to the disc's and calipers from the new XJR.
Engine was stripped and new shells, oil pump and gas flowed head fitted.
Spark plug leads are 12mm racing multi cores and the air box replaced with a high flow washable unit.
The inlet manifold, flow meter and exhaust were replaced with racing items from jaguar tuners AJ6 engineering giving massive torque increases and raising the bhp by over 30%.
The wheels were taken from the supercharged XJ6 and a grill was fabricated to replace the standard one.
As for the bodywork it has had an early XJR body kit fitted, door trims off an escort were modified and fitted to avoid car park grannies and chrome arches added because I like the and not to hide the rust as usually happens.
Interior was gutted and new speakers and head unit fitted, small red l.e.d lights mounted in the door and foot wells so you can see where the switches are because they were not illuminated until later years and the seats were re trimmed in the original leather and burgundy alcantara due to the leather being like the stuff that shoes are made from, lasts for ever tho.
Finally the old girl was given the laughing gas injection at the really helpfull folk at Wizard of nos, I looked into different types of systems and this was the best one to suit my car,the pipes are small bore and can be routed through the wiring loom harness, the solenoids are about the best you can get and the pipes under the bonnet don't fill your engine bay, if you want up to 150 bhp then this is perfect, braided big bore hoses and Goodrich type fittings are for the drag cars that pump massive amounts of gas but mine still runs well at high pressure.
The cars nitrous switches are hidden in the modified ash tray and a bottle warmer was fitted to keep the pressure around 1000 psi.
The jag was featured in the aug 08 issue of jaguar world and some people accused me of ruining a classic jag and being a boy racer, well I leave it up to you, I call it recycling with a kick
