looks a good bike Shimano Altus stuff on an alloy frame does it have a removable gear hanger on the rear drop out? or is it just part of the frame. Those removable ones put me off alloy frames. As the things cost £30 sometimes And some of them are awful prone to break. Or maybes its the owners

Rear hanger is removable, I've stripped it down to just a frame and will start gathering new parts to put it back together

Simple case is that aly frames arent strong enough to take the abuse from the mech getting bashed, so they need to have a replaceable hanger, which can and will break from time to time. It makes sense really, but you try telling that to some of my customers who bought there 13 year old tearaway a £300 saracen and he's broke the mech hanger off in two days.

looks good for the money, infact. Not the best MTB in the world but potentially a very good one specially as it has rigid forks, get it cleaned and services and possibly a few new bits and it should be just the ticket for some trail fun.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Eeek, i think those mods (forks/brakes) would spoil it TBH by the sound of it all what makes and models are they? would make a good XC trail bike as it is.

lol raleigh shopper ftw
I'm more into racing bikes, and with them the newer the better mostly due to increased rigidity and saved weight lol
Old bikes are cool tho, just for the retro factor!
I really REALLY want a Kirk Precision or Kirk Genesis Racing Bike, they are so damn cool

if you are a roadie and into racers then defo keep rigids and canti's though you could put a disc on the front if ya wanna fit new wheel and fork/bosses Again its more old than retro. the retro bike misfits might dig it in the post 1998 section. if ya fancy building summat with tripples and stuff time for a new frame and bits really. My Identiti is coming up for sale but still not 100% what ya need even if it does love downhills
