I've just dug my CB radio out of storage. Its a fairly standard 4 watt 40 channel unit but has WX bands (3) aswell for Marine radio.
I'm not using it and I'm skint so I should probably sell it. Not sure how much its worth though.
Any interest? I'll put pics and specs up if anyone is interested.
Its only the main unit and mic (boxed). No antenna or mains powerpack (runs off 12v).

Ive used them when ive driven lorries with them installed. I don't like them, not much use nowadays and too many weirdos. Theres a guy in Brum who spends all day, every day abusing lorry drivers. "scab in a cab, scab in a cab, scab in a cab" If you try to talk to him he plays an old record. Freak.

herald948: Yep, we're out in the middle of nowhere pretty much, with only a few routes out. You'll see three roads going north-south; two of them continue North, the dual carriageway was meant to continue north of Hwy 24 but never did (there's a large shipping canal and a shipyard in the way) and the other two rely upon a lift-drawbridge and a concrete bridge. If either of those two bridges shut, the only other way out is via Hwy 24, then all the traffic has to hit Hwy 90, which joins up through Hwy 311 to Interstate 10. Do the math and you'll note that the junction of 311 and I10 always snarls up, lol But, saying that, if you search for "Raceland, LA" and zoom out, looking all the way down following Hwy 1, from the bottom up to Raceland is only about 14,000 people. But that's still 10,000-odd vehicles that are trying to get out in the space of a couple days, and meeting up with the traffic exiting New Orleans. Gustav was crazy. We went to San Antonio, Texas and were only just outside the area that the storm could have taken. ...I don't have a carport any more because of Gustav. It's 50 feet away in the canal So yeah, CB is an invaluable tool for hurricane season. Also useful to find out where the police are sitting with speed traps. Thankfully down here the law doesn't allow gatso-type cameras, they have to be handheld units operated by the police. --Phil

It's still quite a big part of trade motoring here (trucks, hotshot drivers etc) along with chrome, lights and of course, the chrome naked reclining mudflap lady.
We have yet to progress out of the 70's.
