UPDATE: Phase one of listing the stuff has been started: retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=pfsw&action=display&thread=56339 - Please have a look and keep an eye out for more & more (AKA LOTS!!) of stuff being added as I get time to sort, photograph and list it all....... I've been asked to re-decorate a house (one of my main lines of work) but I have also been asked to compeletely clear the house first....basically bin everything. The old lady that owns it has gone into a care home and they want the house cleared and newly decorated so that it can be let to tenants to help towards the costs of the care home. As soon as I stepped foot in the door, I couldn't believe my eyes....a true timewarp house! I had to take my camera back with me today to get some shots before I start clearing everthing. Have a look at some truly authentic retro living: Before you say anything, I know it's a shame that most of the house will be ending up in a skip.....but unfortunately I have a very short timeframe to complete the job and there is a LOT of stuff to clear before I get chance to start decorating. The good news is that I finished my current job a day early so got a whole day today to go through everything and salvage anything I thought might be worth saving. The whole time I was thinking of you guys on Retro Rides. I now have a garage full of retro 'tat' that will not be going to landfill. I will try and grab some of the remaining bits tomorrow that I think you guys will like before the skip arrives but once the skip is on site, I'm afraid I have to just get on and chuck things....as said, time is against me. Are any of the old tins/jars/pots in the garage worth saving?? Do any of you guys have a need for some old tat like that? I'll put up more details of the stuff I've saved when I get chance. Pretty busy at the moment (hence why I've not been on here for the past week) but as soon as I get more time I'll get some details of all the lovely retro/timewarp gear I kept for you guys. Hope you like the pics?

Amazing!
Put me down for any old tins/jars/pots etc! I also love old tools. If there's any odd dinky tools that could be for watch/clockmaking? You never know....
In fact any interesting old packaging would be good. Might be able to re-home it.
I bet there's some pukka Antiques Roadshow finds in there too. Coffee table must be good for one of the '50's crew eg. VW?

Just shown Mrs_Seth. She noticed the letter(s) had military connections. Possible interest to the Imperial War Museum? Who knows?

I moved into a house like this. Except rather than clear the rooms they put everything into 2 or 3 of the rooms and locked them (it was a big house). At some point we had to get into the rooms to access the radiators (new boiler). I had a quick root around and it was just like that. I felt sorry for a few things so liberated them. Plus I had to throw out some tinned food long past its sell by date and a load of drinks that were just water and vinegar with some nasty looking sediment in it.
I don't want any tat btw thanks. I've got far too much already. I do have a coffee table like that though, its lovely.

Cool stuff there. Sure someone could turn most of it into money.
Never saw any old oil cans there.
Good luck with the clearout, and especially keeping the balance between sympathetic and sensible clearance.

My stepdad's dad died recently, his house is exactly the same.
I've already bagged the LP stereo thing (it's like a flat pine cabinet, one half lifts up to reveal the deck and the other side has an aluminium face with some dials... the speakers are internal and the legs come off so you can put it on your sideboard - can't remember what make it is but does anyone know much about them?), some folding sunglasses, a raleigh chopper and a puch thingy, a few bits of furniture and a rather nice plaid jacket (complete with fur lining)

Before I get to answer all the questions, I'll just like to state that anything & everthing I salvage will be offered to you guys on RR first....then it'll be eBayed. I want to try and raise some money from the bits I've kept to give a small sum of cash back to the old lady (she is unaware of this) because I know the cost of her nursing/care home is stupid money and I feel really sorry for her. I also feel pretty guilty throwing her life away (literally), but it's a job I have to do. I'm sure any other maintenance contractor would just skip the whole lot, but I am trying my best to save some of the bits that could be used/appreciated by others and also raise some cash for her in the meantime. As you say Rian, getting the balance is a difficult one, but one I am trying to address as best I can. I can't keep everything unfortunately, I just don't have the space or time...to give you an idea of how much stuff she had, it will take two of us four whole days just to clear the house of belongings and furniture (3 x 20yd monster skips on order!!!) I have already filled one half of my double garage with 'saved' items. I dropped off 15 big bin liners full of blankets (80 blankets) at the Bristol dogs home today and numerous bags of clothes at the charity shop so other people/animals are benefitting already.....and my new unit has gained a sofa, armchair, microwave, kettle & toaster in the office ;D ;D I'll hopefully get some details of all the stuff saved over the weekend. It'll take me a good day just to photograph and list it all on here! Anyway, wish me luck guys....think I'm gonna need it!

Never saw any old oil cans there. Funny you should ask - I saved an oil can especially for you! Unfortunatley it's an 80's one but it's Valvoline and quite cool! Might be too new, but I thought of you anyway and saved it (no obligation) Photos to follow..... I would be interested in buying any paperwork, postcards. letters, photographs, old newspapers etc This has been a really difficult one for me.....there were literally bags & bags & bags full of this sort of stuff, but having time to pull out the retro bits from the more modern stuff is SO time consuming. Probably about 90% of it has had to go, but I have saved a few bags of paperwork/letters that seem to be all retro. I really do wish I had the time to sit down and sift through everything in detail....or just to bring it all back, but if you saw how much of it there is, you'd understand why I can only save some of it (and I've only got two weeks to get the house cleared and fully decorated!) I'll get some photos of the bits I've saved over the weekend. No retro books as yet - only 70's/80's stuff but I've had to be ruthless with this and just get rid of it all! Sorry!

Weighing scales look cool as folk. Any chance of me getting to buy them from you? One set of scales is already bagged by my GF, but the other set will be kept to one side for you....I even found the other tray/bowl for it today, so it's complete! ;D I'll have the record player and the keyboard The record player is now reserved for you....but the keyboard I'll need a commitment on because it's too big & bulky for me to save if you end up changing your mind (I won't have the space to store it for long and don't want to end up with it stuck in my garage when it'll be easier to skip it tomorrow!) Sorry to sound harsh, but it's gonna mean a lot of effort for me to get it home if you end up not wanting it? I would love to see it saved and don't mind the effort if I know it'll be going to a good home. I hope you understand? This is a better picture of it to give you an idea of size/style. Comes with matching stool too!!! Please let me know ASAP if you want it saved??

Ill come along with the zeph and fill it with all the 50's tat Obviously ill pay you for anything thats actually worth anything. I'm in Bristol. The coffe table is already in my garage - I even found the original legs for it in the loft as well! I've also saved a nice 50's (I think?) magazine rack and I'm sure there are a few other little bits & pieces you'll like. As said, I'll try and get all the photos up over the weekend. I've managed to save about 6 retro suitcases, so I'm sure the scene guys will be loving those! Details to come.....

Didn't know it was that huge, there's no way I've got the room for that, even if I did you're a bit far. Cheers though.
