So basically at the moment I'm weighing up the Avenger, Imp, and A35. Imps seems like the cheapest option, and would be the most fun to drive. A35 looks the prettiest and has the most character. Whilst the Avenger is the most practical and has the most space. They all look pretty good when done up a bit in my opinion. Below is some pics using how photoshop (badly i know) how I might do each up so which one do you prefer the look of in done up form? Imp (lowered, tinted rear windows, alloys, hidden door handles, matte black): Avenger (hidden door handles, alloys, lowered, hidden headlamps): Haven't managed to play around much with the A35 to make it look cool, probably something similar though to the other two.

I've always had a soft spot for Chevettes because my dad had a few in the 80s. And I saw this on another thread: And I think think that looks awesome! So what can you tell me about Chevettes? Thanks

(EDIT: IMO) A35 will be cheaper than an Imp

Id like to disagree with that last comment. Cheaper to buy? Maybe. But there is one a35 I saw on ebay with a BIN and that would get you an immaculate Imp that is very nicely modified. As for an Imp in the condition of the one in the background of my last pic, grotty paint and needing some work for an MoT, well, I paid more for the Chopper, as I got that car for free. Also standard spares are very cheap if people are not giving them away free. You want an Imp engine for nowt? Come pick it up from me.

mmmm that Imp does look very nice. Imps look nice from all angles, but the front just looks kind of awkward. Also the idea of a "full size" 70s saloon car is quite tempting. I like the kind of Life on Mars vibe From what I've seen of prices A35s seem to sell for more, but they are cheaper to insure. I'm still considering because I don't have all my money together yet to make a purchase. I'm not exactly that well off, so I want to make a purchase I'm totally happy with, so I'm just making sure I've covered all my options. I've got a few shows lined up to go to over the next few weeks though.

It looks cool with the spots. That yellow one looks brilliant too. Imps make so much sense really, but I'm finding that Chevette with minilites above so tempting, especially when Chevettes are dirt cheap compared with Imps, well to buy in the first place they are anyway.
Have you go any pics of more alternative Imp mods? Other than the Tikimobile?
Is yours red or purple? Also what are the triangles on your bonnet?

It's not really to my tastes, cheers for the heads up about that one though, the build thread looks like a good read.
I like simple mods really, ie just lowered and some nice deep dish retro alloys. But that look has been done to death on Imps (it still looks great though, don't get me wrong). Whilst that look on other cars, which are less popular like the Avenger and Chevette isn't so common.

The reason I have the deep superlites is because I wanted some wheels that would fill the arches, and they came up on ebay when I googled 13x8, and I got them for a good price. I too think superlites are overdone on Imps, which is why I painted my old ones black with the red lip. I still wasnt sure about the 8" superlites but they looks so good I left them on, and did it because I like it and not because I was following a trend. The paint is good on these ones, which is why I left them silver.
The cut-outs in the bonnet are to vent air out of the front mounted radiator, however if I was doing it again I would vent it out of the bottom, and will do on this one at some point, when I get a new bonnet. Mine is cherry red, and is a limited edition run called the 'caledonian' which came with a few things like the heated rear window and alternator as standard, along with the tartan pattern seats and a radio.
What other kind of mods were you after?

The paint choice is not to my taste but it is not my ride I love the concept of a wide body Imp, which is why I posted it It is a demonstration that a very different look can be achieved with a little bit of thinking outside of the box

What other kind of mods were you after? Cool, that makes sense, hadn't thought of that. (since there isn't an engine in the front obviously). I didn't mean to imply you were just following a trend mate I'm sure you did it because you like it, and it looks great tbh. The kind of mods I like are just lowered on some nice deep dish retro alloys (minilites look best on most older cars imo) and then anything which makes the body look smoother/cleaner. Such as hiding door handles, hiding the headlamps on the Avenger, getting rid of the bumpers on certain cars etc. Other than that I'd like to just tune the engine, perhaps add a turbo and better exhaust system. I'dike to keep the exterior simple and clean so it's a bit of a sleeper. I have a kind of "less is more" philosophy. If that makes any sense?

I don't know why though, but I can't kind of connect to the Imp somehow, my head says it makes the most sense, and I like them. But I struggle to get really excited about them in some ways. I think part of the problem is is that it seems like every other Imp on the road has been moddified, whilst a modified Avenger/Chevette etc is not so common. Sorry if I'm sounding a bit like a spoilt idiot, I'm just quite fussy

I meant that if you like something, you should do it, don't hold back because its been done too much, how many have you seen round your area for example? Yes if you go to the Imp club national half the cars will be wearing superlites, but they are also more affordable compared to other wheels.
I like the smoother look too, however decided not to touch the door handles or anything like that, as I also like keeping it simple and a bit more retro. The smooth look that I have in my head is more early to mid 90s I think.
I'll have a scout round my pictures and get some of the cars I like posted up, but I did with a lot of them in my last picture post.

True, I mean I don't think I've ever seen an Imp in my area. Let alone a done up one.
The Imp has a certain classic appeal to it that Chevettes and Avengers don't as well. But the Avenger/Chevette both look a little bit cleaner and more slick.

Wow, certainly some different look imps there magnumpi. I like some of those wide body ones. I'd never have the budget or skill to do that though. I keep looking at different cars, but I always seem to come back to the Imp. It's haunting me lol. The Imp is begining to grow on me again.

Instead of wasting other members' time, why not actually pass your driving test before making 100's of dream threads like you did on OCuK?
