You say, why did the neighbour involve the Police er would you go upto some one you thought was doing something illegal? at the very least there would be a shouting match more than likely a lot of unpleasantness. Nope. I like to think that I'm far too busy to be calling the police to talk to someone whose car is overhanging a piece of pavement that nobody ever uses and is not causing any harm or inconvenience to anyone. If I really felt compelled to make changes to my neighbourhood / city / country I would seek out a worthwhile cause and devote my energies into that rather than singling out the guy with the old car who is doing what many other residents are doing.

Some people are a bloody joke...
I'm thankful where I live at the end of my cul de sac that I have a decent size driveway. A few of the neighbours give me stupid looks when I'm outside on my car and I do question WHY I'm getting these funny looks... People can be so stupid.. whats it to them?
Thankfully my neighbours do approach me if they want me to stop something etc (I had to get a cover to put over the neighbours car while spraying, and to turn my music down as apparently I was vibrating their fireplace, but thats another story).
Maybe its worth you sticking up a sign on a lamp post near your house saying sorry and let them know they can talk to you if they have a problem as there is no need to waste police time.
As for the guy cutting his car up.. good on him. The comment on that page about him cutting the car was a safety problem....... I ended up shouting 'f*** off!' to the computer screen
Edit.. where is the swear blocker these days?

AFAIK if its just overhanging the pavement then it shouldnt need road tax. It could be an issue if its obstructing the pavement too much but if you were to get done for it it wouldnt be for not having road tax *I think*

Similarly if you park in a space that is on the edge of double yellow lines (as in, the last space before the lines begin), as long as your wheels aren't on the lines then you're legally parked. The car body can overhang the yellows. Not actually true I'm afraid. I got a ticket because the rear three inches of my car were overhanging the double yellows a while back. I argued the toss, but got blown out. Thing is, if that's the case, then what's the score with cars on a trailer that are being towed and overhanging the trailer?

would you go upto some one you thought was doing something illegal? at the very least there would be a shouting match more than likely a lot of unpleasantness. and rightly so if it was for a car over hanging a footpath people need to start complaining about things that really are wrong like gangs of kids terrorizing the neighborhood not pathetic things like an old car sticking out of a drive by a little bit that is why this country is the pits id be bunging 6 months tax on and then find out who reported it and dump it outside his house for the duration of the tax but make sure it really looks rough first ;D

Rottie: Was the vehicle in question in a bad condition? I'd reckon they just found the view offensive, but couldn't do anything about that, so pulled you up on the tax thing.
I bloody hate curtain twitchers like this.
Luckily enough I'm at the end of a cul-de-sac (parents house, but irrelevent) with the front of our house facing the side of another, with a big sweeping curve to signify the end of the road, which is where I park. No-ones ever bothered about me fiddling about in the street with bits of car scattered over our lawn. In fact, the most bother I get is a cheery wave from a neighbour.
Plus use of the driveway, which starts off single width (two car lengths), and goes out to a double garage. so can get 4 cars there.
That was long winded for nothing..

a car is only on a public highway if the wheels are in contact with the highway Nightie, what if I wish to operate my hovercraft on an M-road without a tax disc? I'm OK then? ;D

This reminded me about what happened a week or so ago. Police came round saying one of the vans was not showing tax. After a yes it is, no it isn't five minutes, I went over to see the van had a 1982 tax disc in the window from a shoot I had been on a few days earlier! I had to laugh, but also had to ask if he thought if it had been there since 1982? Not possible anyway seen as it's a B reg (at least I remembered to take off the moody plates!). How sad somebody thought they could get us in trouble! the real disc was in the glovebox BTW.

BTW, soon sorted out the lovely neighbours, we started cutting up the two scrappers the next day, they now have 2 convertible Mk2s to look at. Smashing. They are both on our land though. that's teach em.
