Been meaning to do this since we moved in 3 years ago.
Take one boxed up old fireplace (did have a nice log collection in there until we found some wriggly things in them) used a dumping area for kids toys.
Rip out boxing in, fit adjustable vents for air circulation, break out the welder and just about stitch a metal surround to replace the wood, then ring nice man to fit register plate and install wood burner.
Lovely now it's in, turn the central heating way down low and just sit on a lazy Sunday reading the paper and watching the snow. I have now turned into some sort of feral wood scavenger though hence thoughts of pick ups and log splitters!
Also found this lobbed out of a canal barge. Needs a leg and some work to top plate but thinking ideal candidate for my wood burning sauna I'm contemplating as next project. Take one old shed, one free wood burner, add some insulation and some timber and have a cheap sauna? Or a shed on fire like in Men Behaving Badly!
