Well, my nice shiny 7 x 15 Porker rims are fully refurbished and ready for collection, so I'll be getting them on Saturday Tyres are priced up - Falken Ziex ZE-912 195/50's (for a bit of stretch/clearance 'coz it's tight in them rear arches!) - not the worlds best tyres, but the right side of 'perfectly acceptable', and they look good, and the tyre place round the corner will do them for £40 each Any my wheelnuts & bolts have finally arrived, so I can finalise the dimensions for the nice shiny adaptors that gotwood will be making for me All systems go...

Well, the Porsche wheels aren't on yet, and I've hardly touched it for a couple of months now. In fact, it's broken, but I will get on it soon, as it's MOT time on 18th December and I think it needs a few bits and pieces - front wheel bearing(s), perhaps a small bit of welding on the OSF inner wing/turret/chassis leg area. Hopefully it won't cost too much or take too long to get through an MOT. But... The weekend after next should see me bringing home a 16v Dolly Sprint engine and loads of Sprint-specific spares ;D And I've recently taken delivery of a nice set of 38mm Kawasaki ZX-7R carbs...

At the moment, my '7 wears these: But hopefully, these will be finished soon: So these can finally go on: Fully refurbed Porsche cookie cutters with 195/50R15 Falkens . A small amount of fettling on the rear arches may be required though . Dale

Well, I haven't given any updates for a while, but I've still got it! After trying and failing to get the bl**dy thing running with various new ignition parts, I decided to bit the bullet and bought a Lumenition electronic ignition kit, but on a TR7, you have to remove and dismantle the distributor to fit it. The bad news - this has to be the worlds most inaccessable distributor . I can get a spanner on one of the bolts, but there's no room to turn it, and I can't even get to the other bolt. If I drain the cooling system and remove the carbs, manifold and part of the cooling system, I should be able to get to the distributor bolts . I think I'll nip to halfords and see if I can find a suitable tool (something like a 7/16 open-ended spanner at 90 degrees to a ratchet attachment Once it's finally up and running, I can give it a good look over and decide whether to do the few bits I know it needs (brakes, wheel bearings, etc) for the MOT and get it back on the road in a few weeks, or keep it off the road, build and fit the Sprint engine, redo all the untidy but functional repair work to the inner wings, etc while the engine's out, and sort/rewire a lot of the loom; all work I was gonna wait until next winter to do as I'm pretty sure it'll need a fair bit of welding repairs before an MOT in 12 months time... Watch this space to see if any mojo comes back at all Dale

So now that I've finally got my garage back, in preperation for a wave of pre-MOT repairs, I thought I'd have a poke around at that little crusty bit. You know, the inner wing... Now, I knew they'd been 'repaired' in the past, and whilst they were probably OK when done, it's not up to my expected standard of neatness. At a quick glance, the offside is the worst - there's plates on the inner wing in front of and behind the turret, badly blended in with filler, and I think the turret may be made of those seperate side and top plate kits . But my main reason for digging deeper was the crusty/flakey wing mounting rail. Or rather, the area where it should be! Oddly/luckily, the outer wings themselves appear to be pretty good though, so should at least be reusable, assuming I can get them off OK So, when I find time to tackle it, that little lot should keep me occupied for a while And I keep having really pervy thoughts of painting this white with blue doors of black with whitre doors and dressing it up like a panda car, complete with light bar... At last! Some progress So, you know I said the inner wing needed repairing? Well, in order to do that, I need to remove the outer wing. Before I do that, I need to make sure the door is perfectly adjusted so I can accurately align the outer wing when I refit it. And in order to do that, I first need to reskin the door, as it's a little bowed with a bit of rust in the frame (same on the other side too)... So, for those who've never tackled the reskinning of a door before, this is how you do it: Take one angle grinder fitted with a grinding disc and carefully grind through the edge of the doorskin (on the edge of the door, obviously, not on the face!) until you can see a feint line appear in the surface you're grinding in - this is effectively the inner surface of the doorskin itself where it's flanged over the inner frame: Do this all the way round the doorskin. On mine, I also had to grind through a couple of factory welds at the top, and for ease, I cut the quarterlight support with a hacksaw - this can all be tidied up before the new skin is fitted. Your doorskin should then simply lift off: The following couple of photos show the rust I need to deal with before the door can be reskinned. Not severe, but worth dealing with now: So, there's new steel to be let in, derusting, repair a stress crack where the window frame meets the main frame, then clean and repaint the inside of the frame and the side impact bar, before reskinning begins. Shame I won't get to do anything for a week or so now though, but progress is progress ;D Dale

Well, having a bit of a pre-holiday break from the decorating, I've spent the past couple of evenings cleaning the offside door furniture - regulator, lock assembly, etc - before wrapping each piece individualy. I figure I'm more likely to keep at it if I sort each piece as it's removed then box it up, giving a bit of variety to the job and meaning I won't have boxes and boxes of curse word left to fix up towards the end And then, don't ask me why, but I opened the bonnet. I've got mice . Nothing appears to be eaten, yet, so I'll be getting some bait traps tomorrow...

Those reconditioned wheels look massively better than the minilites (though I'm not a fan of minilites anyway) and it's great to see someone tackling a TR7, quirky little cars but definitely look like a lot of fun.
I've often wondered why I've never seen one of these two-toned down the side where the curve-crease is. You couldn't do a hard colour split, it'd have to be fogged, but just imagine below that curve in a deep metallic lilac or prussian blue fogged into the curve perhaps with a feint highlight of silver on the curve itself...

Ah Erm, I appear to have 'accidently' bid and successfully won an awesome set of 5 Caterham Compomotive ML1570's with 205/50 Falkens on eBay that just happen to be the same fitment as the TR7, and about the best looking 'classic' alloy wheel money can buy! Get in! So, anyone wanna buy a set of Triumph to Porsche adaptors and 4 refurbed cookie cutters with new Falkens? Dale

Wow! How chuffed am I Now sporting a set of 7 x 15 Compomotive ML's (ET12) with 205/50 Falkens off of a live-axle Caterham 7 These fill the arches nicely - much nicer than the MGF 'Minilites' I had on there before (they're now on eBay, along with the cookie cutters). And all for the bargain price of £227 for a set of FIVE, needing nothing more than a good clean, and with around 6mm of tread ;D Thank heavens for bad eBay listings...
