Really I think we'll find a handful of people willing to donate some time and bits they've got sat in the garage to build up a fun car. It isn't massively "retro" as a base model, but it should be fun for those involved. For those that want no part of it and want to dramatically exclaim that, then it need not bother you.
2 things happen at the end really, one it get sold on and something will have to happen with money, or it gets dismantled, parts go back to their original owners (if they want them) and life carries on.
Right!!
I think I need to see some Woody Photoshopping of this car.

I really genuinely hope this works, it would be a great antidote to those who have a dim view of car forums, and a great ad for the site. I'm 300 miles away from where all the work will undoubtedly happen on this, and have no experience of spannering cars outside of basic lowering and fitting wheels to 80s Volkswagens!
I'll keep an eye on the thread and, if I can offer any limited help or ideas to this then I will.

Personally I think it´s a great idea, I think we´d have to be very careful about how it gets used, how the costs are covered etc, but with a set of clearly defined rules for everyone I don´t see why this can´t work.
Not too sure what english insurance companies would have to say but surely that´s organisable too?
I live too far away to help much but next time i´m over and the trailer is empty I don´t see why this baby can´t me moved around a bit........
....for free of course! ;D
On a slightly different note the idea of getting a RR car together, using all the knowledge and bits on here, and sold on for charity i think is one of the best ideas i´ve heard of in years!!!
Maybe we should ask for donations in the "for sale" section after a successful sale and put all the proceeds to a charity we choose via vote?

^^^Sold on and money used for a new project maybe? That or Charity. I wasn't too sure about mentioning that yet, but I guess now seems a good time! As HW has said, the end goal is actually to sell/auction the car for charity. The main purpose is to have a fun project for members to get their teeth into and to save a sound and very tidy car from being scrapped (ELV remember) but the conclusion would be to put all the effort into something greater/more rewarding than any kind of monetary gain....and raising money for charity is where this concludes the best. Once the project is near completion, the aim will switch to making the car 'known' as much as possible within the general car community (and wider ideally) to raise as much interest as possible when it comes to selling the project. It'll need to attend the shows etc....but this all comes under the banner of having fun with it. Any more ideas.....please keep them coming....

That is more than 50% of the contribution that will make this work. A Positive attitude, Thanks.

The physical side of this I see being potentialy useful to those unable to keep their own project cars but loads of time/energy.
Of course we(royal) can do something awesome with this.
I guess a lot of us have our own projects and upto our eyebo11ox with em as far as finance and time etc is concerned. If you were more local, or if the car ends up local i'd spend a few evenings. my personal spendature is limited to a couple squid charity style donation, unless i have odd old bits i can throw.
Its a quirky looking thing and with some creativity and positivity could be a squillion times better than junking the old thing.
MM seems like an orgainised and fair chap so if ideas are polled on and there is willing people to makeit happen it stands a good chance, I mean theres fuggin loads of us on here, all with different situations and skills!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Thanks again for all the comments and feedback guys.....
I know there is some fettling to do on writing the guidelines, but nothing a bit of careful planning can't sort? Once a clear 'guide' has been established, I will update the first post accordingly.
One thing I want to make clear - this is supposed to be fun, this is supposed to get the forum working together on a project (in many many ways) and it is supposed to be able to raise some good money for charity.
Everyone involved will profit from this project. The payment is the feel good factor/satisfaction of being involved and helping wherever possible.
As well as donating the car (which cost me £600 - just to keep things clear and in the open) I am also going to stick £100 of my own money into this project as a 'kickstart' to the kitty. I will also be giving a lot of time to it.....so there is as good a start as I can give.....a car, some money and my full commitment.
I am not expecting big donations to this build, but anything that can be spared will help get this rolling. We could just stick the money donated straight to charity, but then we'd miss out on the whole idea of this project.....as a group of people producing a cool custom car and having fun.

I wonder if something like the modern Mooneyes domestic look would work,.. Bright yellow + wood panelling + low + smoothies or moondiscs + stickers

I wonder if something like the modern Mooneyes domestic look would work,.. Bright yellow + wood panelling + low + smoothies or moondiscs + stickers All ideas are good.... Now if anyone is handy with good old photoshop, it'd be great to see some of these ideas visualised. ;D Photoshop contributions don't cost anything, can be done from anywhere in the world, but will prove to be a pivotal point in the shaping of this project.

As HW has said, the end goal is actually to sell/auction the car for charity. It is an option at least .. lets just see how it goes right now to be honest, the journey is more important than the end goal

Give it a week or so, lets see what other ideas roll in and then we can all start voting....

Love this idea Bruce! I generally play with photoshop a bit, so I'll work on some things tonight. Any suggestions from non-photoshopping folk I can do too if needed.
Perhaps a list of available parts that people have lay around/are willing to give might kick-start the creative process? I know I have various bits that I refuse to throw that could go into the pot.

Thanks Ghost....much appreciated. Just an idea.....would Merceds 5x112 fit a 5x114.3 hub with 'wobble' bolts?? I can't seem to get this idea out of my head: 18" banded steels....

I think this is a great idea! No reason why it wouldn't work, and it will most definately be great fun for everyone involved Happily donate time and whatever parts I can find for the cause Just to throw another idea into the mix- The first thing that struck me about the base car was its shape and lack of engine, which instantly said to me that it would be a great basis for seeing how fast we can make it! See if we can get it up to, say, 200mph on a shoestring budget ;D I can see that this idea isn't really the representation of the forum that a car styled by us would be though.... I think throwing all of the styling and modifying techniques that get dicussed/approved of on this forum on a regular basis is probably going to represent the forum and its members better than a top speed challenge would, but though i'd mention it anyway

I've sent a PM as i have some personal experiance of Forum built cars, i could offer storage in essex pretty much right on the M25 if its needed although probably not suitable for any serious work to be carried out there, also i have a 7.5" Mustang axle sitting in the garage that i am happy to donate if its decided it needs something fairly beefy at the back, plus any bash/bodge/build skills that may be required as well as collection and delivery of RR members in the super stylin' smokey Mercedes Coupe. Oh, and some glamour model lady mates for the unveiling piccies.
