Hi all..posted details of this recently during the build, which is now finished ..Bit of background..restored many cars the most recent being... So whilst searching for another project my trusty old Raleigh push iron has been sat neglected in the garage in bits.Wanting something to do i decided to restore it using most of the original parts..which is where i discovered a problem ..having moved house etc and several car resto's later most of the parts had disappeared.. The frame itself i believe was an old 30+yrs Raleigh racer, so after visiting several shops for parts, kept hitting a brick wall and comments like 'you'd be better off buying a new one' became the norm..Ok lets consult the internet me thinks...within minutes of searching my parts shortage was over and a whole new world opened up for oldskool single speed bikes.. So the resto began...frame sandblasted... Followed by a conversation with a good friend dave at www.haywood-classic-custom.co.uk with a view to painting it..luckily dave had a very nice shade of pearlesant blue/purple paint going spare with a touch of metal flake which fitted the bill nicely.. Followed by some hand drawn flames.. Whilst the paint was being applied the search for parts began and a certain style developed with the help off websites such as freshtripe and london fixed gear single speed...velocity wheels, polished hubs, stainless spokes, paul e-comp brake lever, one off stem made by this very talented friend.. Several web purchases later and 6mths of research i end up with this... Many thanks to all involved and i hope this meets the Retro Rides street cred factor

OOOF! That is insanely cool, I saw it in the fixie thread on here and liked it then, nice to see it all built up By a bizzarre coincidence i'm building a fixie from almost the same frame: Mine's a late fifties Raleigh sport which i'm ftting out with some trick deep section rims and a blend of old and new components. If it comes out half as good as yours i'll be well pleased

Hi street.. nice frame brings back memories..at least you have the original forks which i regretably misplaced as they featured a nice chrome finisher at the top...I'm sure yours will be as sweet with the right mix of parts...total cost for mine was about £350 as a guide..the most expensive single items being the brake lever and the wheel builds..although with some careful surfing yourself this price could be reduced a tad..cheers..

That bike is sooooooo on it.......the workmanship is excellent. I used to have an old three speeder that an old boy gave me from his shed . Painted it matt black and whitewalled the tyres. Added some flames and she was good to go great fun in the summer (you know those three mild days we get during April), but it weighed a ton so hills were best avoided. It had a little chrome shifter dowm on the frame to which I added an eight ball. Sadly some t**t decided they liked it more than me and kin pinched it from the back of my house. I keep scouring the Re-cycling centre for things like this its amazing what still turns up. Brilliant..... ;D Wouldnt mind a Grifter now....

Hi, nice bike here: Not meaning to diss your bike but just thought I'd point out that single speed with only a front brake is technically not legal as you need two forms of braking (fixed rear wheel or coaster brake is acceptable as a 2nd form). Also you're prone to going over the handlebars if you aren't careful. Also I never quite understood the point of a drop stem with riser handlebars but it does look quite cool. Otherwise great build, far better finished than lots of custom single speed/fixed bikes at the moment.

Hi tallsam..no worries on the brake situation as the bike will only see summer use locally and several car/retro/rod shows 'weather permitting' ..the stem is a one off and cost about £10 to make from an existing stem cut and shut with my desired rake..to be honest i intended to restore the bike kinda standard but got distracted by the trick parts available ..i will post some better pictures up when the weather gets better to try and capture the flip metal flake paint effect ;D
