Landrovers are great ;D that is until a deer runs out from the hedge while said landy is doing about 70 Saw something cross the road and dive into the hedge on the opposite side then "THUMP" the other poor bu66er ran straight into the front corner of the Landy, it was so close I didn't even see it come out the hedge. Turned round and went to check it wasn't in pain and found one very dead deer Hope it wasn't bambis cousin I did think about the freezer but was on way to schools parent evening and am a bit unsure of suitability of meat killed this way

there was something on the news either today or yesterday about culling of deer because 'they cause 20 accidents a day' i say slow down, they have just as much right to be here as us, theres nearly 2million apparently yet nobody ever sees them. bet the landy was a bit bruised and coloured afterwards tho? hope not

Strictly speaking if you squished it your not allowed to collect it.. that said its fresh and free... I may have turned my nose up if i'd burst its guts with a full blown body shot or actually driven over it.. but in the above account it would now be in my freezer!

I would say then that you would have turned up your nose I wont go into details but I didn't run it over.. at least it would have been very quick..

Well usually the meat is no good where the impact was, and you want to get the guts out and the carcas clean and hanging ASAP. So you probably didn't missout on much dinner if you hit it with a landy! Hope the motor is OK!

I heard the law only allows you to pick up roadkill if you find it dead, not if your the one who runs it over.. or something.
Those deer are a liability. When my mate crashed off the road into trees and killed himself they recon it was because he was swerving to avoid a deer.....

There are loads of deer in this area; the thing is, the big 'uns aren't too bad because at least you can see them, it's the blasted Muntjac that are the problem. They are small, fast, stupid and are solid enough to completely stuff in the front of your car. My mate lost his XR3 to a Muntjac on a dual carriageway; it tore the front clean off the car and launched it into the air which was a shame 'cos it was mint.
As for roadkill; if you hit it, it comes under laws protecting game and the law looks on the vehicle as a weapon, therefore you cannot legally stop and retrieve. But if you see the vehicle ahead wipe something out, you are entitled to retrieve it. My GT's spoiler is just the right height for decapitating pheasants....... ;D

I've trashed two cars on deer jumping out. As far as I am concerned next time I'm picking up the carcass, gutting it, hanging it, butchering it and tandooring it. Sod what the law says, I'm owed a lotta meat's worth of car!
At least yours was a Landy so hopefully not too much damage.

I would take the meat too! Even if you don't gut it, at least take the legs off, you may have ruptured the gut so the legs are the safest

i had a pheasant toddle out in the road doing it's best famous grouse impression until it exploded against my capri 70 miles an hour really spreads them about, on my way back there were 4 or 5 lumps of something unidentifiablein the road, the rest had turned into feathered pate to be fair though it does upset it me hitting anything as it does have as much right to the road as i have...........

I live in Essex, 25 mins from central london and we have loads of deer round here, i dunno where those people who never see them are hanging around but i've hit three of the buggers over the years and they proper do your car in, last one i hit at under 30mph cos i saw it and was hard on the brakes but it changed direction and tried to out sprint the car instead of carrying on across the road until i hit it up the .

There's hundreds of the buggers living in Phoenix Park in Dublin and they're 'protected' - you kill it, you get done for it. I try to do most of my long journeys in the wee hours of the night and this seems to be the time when all the suicidal deer try to find food growing on the road - few near misses in the fog.............
Although i have slain a few badgers (ooooh, saucy) and one defo suicide kitten ....... (i was fairly moving on the racing line of the wrong end of a corner and he was just waiting for me, just sat there til i drew up alongside him and then miao.............. never even finished his sentence. Apparently every time i touch myself god kills a kitten, one down.......)

I know there are hundreds in the wilderness around where I live, but as I seldom drive at night now I seldom see any.
I'm wondering if someone should post a threads in 'Readers' other modifications' on how to butcher a deer!?!?!?
