Ms Grizz's daughter is 17 today, so has just gone off on her first driving lesson. Grandpa and grandma came over for a cuppa tea and a chat. Grandpa is a full on petrol head too, so so often takes a spot pic or two for me ;D Today he came in to show me this.... happens to be close to where he lives. There were about 8 cars in the yard, or is that half cars? I guess the motivation is understandable, but it still gets me. Sacrilege, or sensible savvy ?

It wasnt a film company was it? I once saw something similar to that on an estate in Gainsborough, they were all Sierras and had been cut in half in the same way. They were for attaching camera rigs to apparently.

My guess is the engines/gearboxes are destined for export, and that's the most convenient/time-effective method of storing/moving them. I've seen it a lot in the past with wagons where they literally gas-axe the chassis just behind the cab, then ship the cab/engine/box/front suspension in one unit.

Yeah, export I recon. I was at Tibury docks the other week and it was full of old mercs and J stuff, cut up and piled high ready for export. Africa I guess? Its meant to be big money! Some cars are exported whole and filled with engines, axles and gearboxes. I think in Africa the mechanical parts wear out due to the high milages they do, not to mention poor roads so theres a healthy demand for parts.

Never seen them all as one make before but my local salvage yard used to sell front end cuts, lopped off the same way with the back end of the loom coiled around inside the car. Easier for them, can demo the engine running, get all the ECU and instrument cluster and fusebox etc so no faff.

We must be about the only country that doesn't sell complete front clips! Much easier when doing an engine swap.

Yeah my friend (who is from congo) was talking about the ammount of money second hand fridges (the tech bits of em) go for in Congo. Stuff a 505 full of em and ship it out and i'm thinking you'd be rich enough to afford a mk1 escort or even a splitty!11!!1!

This is a common sight in Norway. All going to Germany for export to Africa. I see ads daily in newspapers where persons with african names wants to buy older Toyotas.
