maybe it does make me sound pretentious, but me or close friends have had 5 type4s pass through or hands in the last 18months. 3 of those were t+t, all of which we struggles to get 500 quid for. one was a 72 412le, 36000 genny miles, totally mint. sold for 400 quid after 6 months for sale. and it was in FAR better condition than the one in question here, i looked round it at dubfreeze and its a long way off mint.
this isnt people guessing what you could sell it for on a forum. this is actually buying and selling them in the real market.
at the end of the day type 4s are big, ugly, rust badly, hard to get parts for, and no-one wants em because of this.

Dez I can appreciate you have knowledge on the subject, but I feel you shouldn't make sweeping generalizations on the market as a whole, based on your experience. It's a shame your cars didn't go for more, because they aren't bad vehicles. Selling a mint 36000 mile car with MOT for £400 is a real shame, and is something I'd have snapped your hand off at in an instance. Especially when I've seen 411's with shed loads of rot for sale at £2200 pulling in loads of interest at shows. As for your remark about 'this isn't people guessing what you could sell it for on a forum' - yes it is! Check the original post - How much is it worth do you reckon? Further more your reasons for Type 4's not being popular seem a bit harsh. They may be big, but what's wrong with that? Your Pontiac and Merc aren't exactly small runarounds, but the size didn't put you off. They may not be the most attractive car, but I'd hardly call them ugly (check the woody 412 for proof). If you don't like the look of them, don't buy them. Simple as! They may rust, but since when has that stopped people buying something. I think there'd be a whole lot less campers, bugs, etc etc on the roads if people were put off by rust. The only valid problem you mention is the lack of parts, which as I said earlier could act as a deterant and keep prices down. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

That thing is the nads that I posted, one of the coolest rides I've seen. So different. Does anyone have links to VW photo galleries? Of these type 4 things and other Euro style craziness.

I’d like a 411 or 412 – probably the only aircooled VW I would have, just cos its an obscure but interesting bit of 70’s roadside furniture, and is sufficiently far removed from the VW ‘dub scene’ fashion victim weenies.
Oh I’ll tell you what, I’d love a K70 and/or Mk 1-2 passat too.

I Fecking hate Herbie reps. *n You grumpy curse word ;D I think I know where you are coming from...... but I can't deny that the stance and the colour scheme on that fasty looks spot-on. Perhaps it needs a different number on the side to differentiate it from trying to be a complete Herbie replica but just based on the wrong car

What do we make of this folks? www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=188294Sold on Ebay about 6 weeks ago for £80 or so. Now this lad's saying he's 'decided to let it go' - asking £500 ono otherwise he reckons he'll break it.... Nice. Do we think he's a curse word-taker or will he get his money?

its a steaming heap o wibblepoo thatll probly never see the roads again, unless you find someone who like fabricating large panels from scratch................it needs front wings, a bonnet and decklid, so i dread to think what the rest is like...............its not worth a ton, let alone 5 of em!!

The lad flogging that purple thing seems to have commited the age old crime of thinking: If I can break this for £500 of bits, I'll save myself the hassle and try and flog it for £500.
The murky depths of the auto-world are full of this kind of numpty. If you want £500, chop it up, and list every singly bit on eBay. Otherwise, weigh it in!

T**t. Shame, if I was in the UK and I had a workshop, I might convince myself to embark on a weldathon on that! Not at 500 snoot though, he can shove it!
