Well - that's it.....my beloved Z1 has now been sold and is living in Holland. ( My Z1 details HERE) This left a big hole in my life and my garage, so I took the decision to get back behind the wheel of one of my old faves....the Mk1 Mr2. I've owned a few of these in the past - and what a little bundle of fun! I genuinely think they can't be beaten for the money when you look at the fun factor combined with the reliability etc... I was in no rush to buy one and after a few days searching the country (from my computer of course) I had deduced that it would take me a while to find an MR2 that was my kinda spec (T-bar, Mica Blue etc...) but low & behold a little Mica Blue '2' caught my eye......not the T-bar model I was looking for, but it certainly had an interesting spec. I caught the train from Bristol to Stanstead with a bundle of cash in my bag....and bought myself this little bad boy..... These were taken the day after I got it. I'd driven 600 miles between picking it up and getting home (LOOOONG detour to visit some friends ;D) Every single mile of the joureny induced a big grin. This little sloth is such a bundle of fun! The stickers are now off (not my scene) and the car is currently being stripped down (trim & interior) so that I can assess what rust might be lurking under those sills/under the carpets etc... I also want to give it a few tweaks here and there....but I'm in no rush (too busy with work) The wheels are going to be swapped for something a little more 'of the era' - possibly some 16" Borbet's?? Watch this space......

gotta be a 2 litre turdblowa out of Mk2 or the v6, or the V8 Is it a woodsport conversion or a home brew? supercar slayer there! Thought it looked a bit special with that supercharger/import rear panel/lights. Looks tidy too, any textbook hidden grot? hows the handling, or should I say hows your memory of your old one? looks well set up anyway. sweet, lotsa fun.

270!?!?! Is that a V6 conversion? I'd love a V6 conversion but this one is based on the Mk2 Turbo engine. Spec is as follows: Mk2 2.0 Turbo engine (Rev1) 34k miles when fitted Mk2 CT20b Rev3 turbo St185 chargecooler & pump Cometic steel head gasket Apexi induction HKS fuel cut defender XS Power de-cat pipe Custom 3" exhaust Bailey BOV When it had the original intercooler & CT26 turbo it was dyno'd at 244bhp. The CT20b is a far better turbo and the St185 chargecooler makes a huge difference as well. The current turbo is running at 1bar but could easily be set to 1.2bar or 1.4 before having to think about new injectors. With a bit of tweaking, it should make 300bhp with no further mods. I think I'll leave it at 1bar and keep things as they are for now. It's pretty brutal as it stands for such a light RWD short wheel base car... Oh - and it's had a rev2 E153 LSD fitted as well......that should help bring the 1/4 mile time down a bit (13.7secs @103mph before the new turbo, LSD, h/gasket and chargecooler!) Good times..... ;D

Not only do we need to know whassinnit, we also need a pic of whassinnit ;D Only for you guys do I run out to the garage in the howling wind & pouring rain to get some shots of the engine! Needs a good clean up and all the nasty blue hoses binned (for some black ones) - I want to make the engine look as OEM as possible so the challenge will be to get it looking like Toyota intended it to be in that bay.... ;D Like I say, some TLC and it should be looking pretty sweet in there.

gotta be a 2 litre turdblowa out of Mk2 or the v6, or the V8 Is it a woodsport conversion or a home brew? supercar slayer there! It's a home brew job - and not a bad one either! Down on the official register as UK conversion #5. I think Woodsport provided the mounts, but the rest was done on the guys drive. Supercar slayer - not sure on that one yet. Quick? YES! I was originally planning on getting a nice Mk1 and fitting the 3.0 V6, but this one happened to come up for sale and how could I refuse! The V6 has a good torque range and I was convinced this was the route I wanted to go, I was a bit sceptical about the Turbo route......but all those doubts were soon blown away (literally) on the test drive. Thought it looked a bit special with that supercharger/import rear panel/lights. Looks tidy too, any textbook hidden grot? Rear arches have already been done (not ideal - I wanted one that I could have done myself so I knew what was done/how well it was done....to my standard) but the rest all looks OK so far. I'll know more when I finish stripping it down. I do plan to eventually transplant this all into a nice T-bar shell. Find a T-bar, strip & prep it so that the body is perfect......then do the engine swap.....or maybe even just keep this and do a V6 on the T-bar? Options options!! hows the handling, or should I say hows your memory of your old one? looks well set up anyway. sweet, lotsa fun. Handling seems quite sweet. It's got a good set of Koni adjustables paired with some Fensport springs along with a Whiteline uprated ARB. I'll be changing all the drop links, ball joints, bushes etc on the front because it doesn't feel as positive as I'd like. Might even look at getting some hybrid coilovers on there so I can get it really set up? Tyres are 225's on the back (195 front) but the wheels really don't float my boat. If you know of any nice 16" Borbet A's or Borbet C's (maybe even some 16" Azev's) please let me know??? The brakes are Celica GT4 front and Mk2 Turbo Rev3 rear with braided hoses etc....but the pedal feel is quite vague. I reckon it's the Redstuff pads he's fitted (too hard for general fast road) so I might try and see if it fairs any better on the Greenstuff? Why did chap sell it? Like what could replace it, would have to be some sick //not AE92 drift spec AE86 Corrolla! He's not replacing it! Stupid guy went and got himself a kid!! Now he's all Mr Sensible with a BMW 5 series diesel!! Another perfect argument as to why I will NEVER have kids.... ;D His loss......my gain. Life is sweet.

Good stuff. :thumbs up smilie: A bloomin kid!hmm well to be fair there lies the unfuture-proof prob with a 2 seater, many a time I have considered making one into an estate (one day) and a kiddie seat or boot rack for kids like a Subaru Brat! winner, Hmm My t bar leaked but it is fixable and no doubt you'll change seals and do it properly. they are more twisty on track but super strong sills, and you could always creatively roll cage/reinforce a T bar. I went to try a sunroof one to build my idea but its gonna be a grot show i know it. no rush on that one. It can wait. ya got me in the mood now though!

That looks great! They're quick enough with 120bhp, so 270bhp must be off the chart! Just check the rear engine mount, I've heard over on twobrutal that then can get torn apart from the torque, but I'm sure you know that! Have fun in her!

Hey there HW....
.....you're welcome over anytime. Still no news on the secret underground storage facility - but waiting is half the fun (well that's what I keep telling myself!)
BTW - you'll be glad to hear that plans are afoot for a flat-deck...just for you! As soon as I picked the car I could hear you telling me what I should do.
Give me a call sometime?

Great Gadzoooks !! That has to be one of the best. You certainly know how to choose them. Thanks for the kind comments - it's certainly an interesting beast and I only hope I can do it some justice in my ownership? It's not the tidiest MR2 out there (not by a long way) and the photos probably make it look better than it actually is, but it's certainly not a grotty rot-box either. I hope to get it into good shape before too long. I think tidying up the wiring is going to cause the biggest headaches!! I love twobrutal mk1's, one day I will build myself one! excellent choice in replacement car! TwoBrutal are a bunch of mentalists that should be avoided where possible - addiction is guaranteed! The fun factor of this car is so great, I managed to clock up 600 miles just on my way home from buying it! (150 miles from where I live) It was the perfect excuse to go visiting lots of friends.....didn't see them for long, I was too keen to get back on the road to get to the next lot. ;D Hopefully picking up some spares over the weekend (various trim bits and possibly some new seats) so that I can start to get it back in shape. More details/photos will follow over the weekend. Cheers for now, Bruce.
