Just in case anyone is interested...
These were all built on a budget with a strict purpose in mind, that's always the idea but it never quite works out like that..
This is a classic 'british trail bike'.
The frame is a Dialled Bikes Prince Albert, UK designed and Taiwan built steel effort built to take a lot of abuse. It's perfect for the sort of half day play in the woods rides we have in the South. Mix of strong components from Shimano, DT Swiss, Hope and Spank, and something I now hate riding without, a Gravity Dropper seatpost:
It's a little delicate but I put up with that for the benefits you get whilst riding.
Next:
The current winter hack, 1996 GT Zaskar LE (Californian made) with a number of salvaged bits that have life left in them and some horrible skinny tyres to cut through the gloop.
My full suspension:
Frame is an 06 Kona Dawg Deluxe, forks are Manitou Sherman 150mm, Bontrager Big Earl wheels and Fox air shock. It's a compromise bike, I'd love a proper downhill monster but I only go to the Alps once a year so this has to go uphill in Scotland and Wales before it can come down again. When we go to the Alps for a bit of gravity fun then a set of downhill tyres and 3mm thick innertubes help to keep things running and teh rubber side pointing down :
I'd like a bigger bike but, meh, this'll do.
This one:
is an early 90's steel Kona Lava Dome with slick tyres and narrow bars, used for hunting pedestrians and getting fit*
This used to come to shows in the van for ease of getting from the bar to the toilet to the burger van but as the van has now gone I use it to look at....
and finally, the one that gets the most use!!
My means of getting to work, found in a hedge outside Tesco about ten years ago and still going strong, albeit slowly dissolving.....
looking at these, I realise I have an unhealthy obsession with DMR pedals, must diversify
Now, just need somewhere neater to keep it all.....
*soon.
Cheers,
James
