Would a k-reg Rover Metro GTi be classed as retro?
I know of one up for sale, full rebuilt and resprayed, with racing shocks/springs, refurb brakes and new Yokos for £500. It is absolutely mint! The guy built it for hillclimbing/sprinting in the midland speed championship.
What do you think? It would also be very easy to transplant a 1.8 k-series in there, having a 1.4 now!

Ahhhh
There was one featured in retro cars a couple of months ago along with the Maestro turbo! It had a 1.8 k-series in it.

it's not an 'old' metro though it's a Rover 100 metro. Incidentally these scored 0 in the Which Car... or do I mean What Car... frontal impact test way back soon after they were released. The only other production car of the time to equal that 'performance' was the Chrysler Voyager... having said which they're probably a lot safer than a fair few retro cars!

Rover 100: Rover Metro: Austin (old) Metro: Looks pretty old Metro-ish to me.

Well if it's a Metro Gti on a K plate then it's a Rover Metro like the middle pic in which case it's not an old metro is it?

Yeh, I know that! I'm trying to say that it looks more like the old Metro than the Rover 100, or it does to me! Ok, I know that the mechanicals are different (slightly), but it definately looks more like the old metro.

If he bought it, he'd be driving a safer car than most of us in our 70's-mobiles! But I think we'd be stretching the parameters a bit to call a 90's Rover "Retro"

The top and middle cars are based on the same platform and are both k-series powered. The bottom and middle cars are both... the same colour... oh and they both say Metro on them.

wasn't the rover 100 just a reworked front end version of the late rover metro? Could be wrong

I know they have different mechanicals, but they look similar (you can't deny that). The Rover 100 was the same base with different front and rear end.

They only look similar in the same way that the new and old MINIs look similar - i.e. (as all those plonkers on TV like to say) they have the same 'styling cues' and the new MINI aint retro is it?

Umm, the rover metro is the same size as the original metro, and some body panels are interchangable, so its closer than the new mini. Anyway, here's a piccy:

? Which body panels are interchangeable? You can't moan about that for £500 but I wouldn't be seen within a 50ft radius of one!!!
