nineteen eighty four
dooby-doop, doop doop doop doop.
So how has thwe world changed since the September issue of Street Machine Magazine? Dunno, a lot. Lets have a look at what was hot in '84
Steve Kirk's rendition of a coupe'd HB Viva in Motorvation obviously owes some metalwork to a HC Coupe.
A reader on the letters page is concerned about getting the original registration number on his modified Zodiac.
and the reader's rides pages looked like this...
Awesome A55 mild kustom
Turbo style Beetle
Black Magic inspired Chevette would have been a fairly new car then
Anyone know what this is? I do. Tell ya later. But masses of fibreglass, dubious restyling and dappy spoilers are nothing new. That said, I'd roll it.
High Riders were all the thing then too. Not to be confused with gassers. This Minx is the business.
Theres a RWYB report from an event organised by the magazine whihc turned a few nice cars up...
Now this I like! Datsun 1200 with a Rover V8. Did it ever get finished and is it still about somewhere today?
I believe someone tried to track this one down a while ago and found it got broken up
BMW powered Honda FTW
Big news was the Street Car Championships and Nick Mann's Minor was CROWNed fastest street car in the UK with a mid 11 sec pass.
Seems so slow now LOL
Runner up. WANT!
also running:
Love the Buick, very "of the era"
The main feature cars in the issue were this Minor pickup:
complete with Honda 3 wheel ATV in back
and this Wolesley.
Which I am sure I saw at Newark Autojumble only a year or so ago with the same interior but now with wires and ghost flames.
Theres a lot of black and white, and newsprit quality paper in the mags back then.
'nother Minor, with slot mags, cool stance. Yummie.
This Corsair is just coming to the end of its run as a fashion icon. Love the ground effects, mags and sidepipes and of course the sump welded to the bonnet. I expect the interior to be a symphony of draylon and polished wood.
Zephyr/Zodiac is a simpler look you could roll now
State of the art ICE
I WANT!!!! I saw one of these stack systems at Newark Autojumble a couple of years ago for £15 or something and didn't buy it a I thought it was dear at that and bloody hell do I wish I had now. Bah!
And lots of ads for wheels. Pick your favourites at Direct Wheels
LMAO at the names though, "Yeah, I'm rollin' a set of 14" Brians on mine, thinkin of going for a set of Normans though" WTF?
Or maybe Grays have more what you want?
I wonder what happened to either company as they were the big names there with JWR and Ripspeed.
Finally no mag would be complete without a trip to the classifieds.
Now you have to remember the relative ages of the cars have changed, that inflation has happened, etc. but even so, don't you wish these ads were current?
