them mg magnette wheels would look nice. not sure if there stock but seen a few on em. the steels in silver with multiple holes in. (like lightweight e type ones!) They would look nuts. and some subtle lowering and a nice pipe. keep it all period sorta racerish...... looks freakin great tho btw. keep up the great work..

Bl**dy nice example that is too. Quite a few 15/50's still around over here - but very few 4/44's. I spent more years than I would like to remember doing up a ZB Magnette - to all intents the same shell - but with enough differences to be something else altogether... Yes - the steels look good with a little extra width - and they are 15's to boot. The MGB 'B' series fits easily - so there are numerous tuning options available to give a nice torquey unit. Likewise the 'B' series gearboxes from A60/Oxford etc - I think the MGB box would require floor mods. The rear axle is unique to Wolseley in the 4/44 - but it is easy enough once again to adopt the 'B' series housing, which gives you the option of the MGB 3.9 ratio diff head. Its nice "keeping it all in the family.." so to speak - with the obvious liaison between Wolseley and BMC at that stage - but apart from that - it means most of the bits all bolt together.. Go well...

You do need the 1622 A60 box I think - fitting it to an 1800 requires small modifications to the back plate to bolt up. I'd be tempted to do something a bit more radical than fitting a B-series with it though, as that is basically just turning it into a 15/50? Lovely car either way, standard or ridiculously modified!

Cheers to all for the comments. It would be good if mine turned out something like that magnette very impressed. The cars in the background are the sales cars from where i work. Its all classic stuff from morris 8's to lotus eclat's and your right that is an A40 sold now tho.Got a tidy A90 with austin healey engine and box if your interested!!!About the mods i would love to get a 60's or 70's straight 6 under the bonnet and keep the outside quite stock, but for now i'll be happy to get it tested and legal.

The best place for you to get repair panels is Shortens over in Norfolk.. www.mgspecs.co.ukThey hand make the panels and supply all sorts of spares for the Magnettes and as there are very few differences between the two they should be able to help you out. It's real oldskool stuff as they are a retired couple who have been handmaking this stuff forever and a day. They even made some lower front door repair panels for my Magnette 10" longer than standard to fit my new long doors perfectly. That's a beauty of a car you've got there. It's rusted in all of the normal places so don't worry too much. . If you were to draw a line 6" up the bodywork everything below it will rot at an amazing speed. Early monocoques were great water traps.

That is a really sweet looking car, and it looks like the work's coming on nicely. I'd go with abit of width on the steels, touch of the stick, job done (And then put a rotary turbo engine in it!!!)

Lovely. Presume an easy upgrade would be to go for the 1500 XPAG engine? Well, if you could find a good one!

Beautiful! Was it the one that one of our members found in that lockup a while back?
Good on you for keeping it, when I saw the words 'welding project' I instantly thought 'banger fodder'.
Good to see it ain't so!

I don't think it was from here.A chap had bought it without seeing it first and when it arrived at his house on the back of a lorry he realised how bad it was and took it straight to where i work. The boss is always buying cool old motors and after i took it for a spin and gave it a once over i bought it from him.

Lovely. Presume an easy upgrade would be to go for the 1500 XPAG engine? Well, if you could find a good one! The 1500 was an XPEG not an XPAG I think? I'd imagine they command a fairly hefty price with the T-series MG fans!? I like the idea of a 60's or 70's six pot engine in there - there is a "blue streak" 2.4 6 pot version of the B-series but it was only for export to the commonwealth in the Austin Freeway & Wolesley 24/80 and would probably be hens teeth to get hold of, and the 80 horse power on tap is not exactly stump-pulling!

Most of the NTG stuff comes from Shortens! The one in the avatar is my Magnette which is now a 2 door, seperate chassis and 427ci engine! Have a look on noskooljustcool.proboards49.com/index.cgi?board=showusyours&action=display&thread=181it's got the full build so far or you can see some of it on www.enigmaracing.co.ukbut the site is under development so please excuse it being half built! I shall be watching this build with much interest!
