anyone else had these problem when driving a retro car with less than modern performance ? (or with !) People pull out in front of you all the time ... even when they have seen you EVERYTHING tries to overtake no matter how quickly you are driving Its not too bad most of the time but I always seem to get people pulling out when driving the 323, I can only imagine its worse if you have a tuned old school looking car !

Good point Mike - I find it all the time in the HA van, although TopTaff's burnt off a few smug Saxo boys around Llanelli! Wait 'til the Model B returns: that'll hold 'em up!

I know it isnt retro, but thats the problem with the Impreza. Everyone thinks you're gonna want to race them. My mum complains that people always try to race her at the traffic lights and tailgate her on duel carriageways. My dad doesnt complain and more often than not shows them what they're up against Adam

Something I notice a lot is when i'm on a motorway or duel carrigeway, people come bombing up the outside to overtake then slow down to look at the car. It can be flattering but its also a pain in the if your trying to overtake anything.

Drives me nuts. People do it to me in the Merc all the time - I'll be barreling down the road at 60 and some retard will assume it's old and therefore going slow. Funnily enough nobody did it to me in the "Mazda of Doom" - probably thought "I don't want that thing behind me!" The first day I had the Escort (was driving it back) some bint in a new Saab decided I shouldn't be in the outside lane of the dual carriageway - I was overtaking some wagons - and proceeded to drive right on my . Little did she know my bro was following me back in the BMW, and floored it up behind her. A quick one-finger-salute from us both and she backed the f*ck down ;D Retro solidarity!

glad its not just me then on the flip side though no one messes with the rally car even though its not that quick (323 gti bog std.) ... the funniest one was a nova sat in the right lane (no one else at the lights ) at the lights, I pulled along side, he looked over and after that didn't dare look left again and waited till I'd got about 20 feet past the line (slowly of course) before he dared pull off had me in stitches !

the CROWNing glory of my traffic light drags in the 411 was blowing the doors off a 3 litre twin turbo supra. he laffed at me then revved his engine. i quickly set the shift lite to 5k then readied myself for launch. red/amber and f*ck you. got about 4 cars lengths before he came past, not laffing. ;D

i have problems with lack of performance in my golf. i was following a mate in a corsa from banbury to brackley. within about 2 minutes he was out of sight. to make matters worse i wasnt sure of the way since i havent been driving long and i don't usually go to brackley. i ended up getting there and he was nowhere to be found. i just went home and thought sod him.
things are going to change when i get the westfield though ;D

In the HA van everyone tries to get by, but once it's wound up it's fine, and sometimes keeps the Nova abd Saxo boys at bay. Everyone seems to avoid our two Volvo 240s!

I hate it when you move to the outside lane on a dual carriage way to overtake someone, and just as you get level with them they speed up so you can't get past. Why don't they just let you pass? Why do they have such aproblem with being overtaken by an old car?

I forget how many times people try and race me off the lights in our Beetle, grinning as they realised that they've beaten me.............hello 44 bhp is hardly a fair fight. I do get let out at junctions though and women smile and wave at me which is (the wife doesn't think so though )

I hate it when you move to the outside lane on a dual carriage way to overtake someone, and just as you get level with them they speed up so you can't get past. Why don't they just let you pass? Why do they have such aproblem with being overtaken by an old car? It has to do with the average person's marketing-induced hate of old motors I reckon. I won't rant about it again because I've done that a few times before, as have a lot of you, I think there was a thread specifically called "Why do people hate old cars?" or something, so I won't bore you all with the same rant. Basically though, since marketing tells people that they can't be seen to have anything that isn't the newest and most fashionable around, clothes, shoes, mobile phones, choice of music, and cars, they also feel that they have to prove that their new and fashionalbe gear is better than the old and unfashionable stuff. The result is that new car owners don't feel comfortable with the fact that the guy in the old car is able to overtake them, for some reason the average guy on the street sees some symbolism in his sh*tty Eurobox being taken by a retro car, as if we're saying that our old car is better than the dull lump of plastic they're driving, which actually it bloody is. ;D ;D But anyway, the guy in the Eurobox feels the need to defend his decision to get into massive debt over a car that's rubbish compared to the retro car he had a few years ago, so he can't possibly let a retro car leave him sitting, he has to try and outrun it. Anyway, enough of the psychology bit, I'm probably not that good at it, the long and the short of it is that the average wage slave who's been conned by the "Yes! Car Credit" vultures feels threatened by us and our lifestyles that don't revolve around keeping up witht he Joneses, so he feels that he can't let us pass without a fight to prove he's better than us. (Of course he isn't, but he doesn't think the same way we do! ) That's the way I see it, but I always did have a f*cked up mind, I'm no doubt the only person warped and f*cked up enough to think that way! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
