Nice purchase! I feel the need for something small, two wheeled and fairly slow at the moment... Its not a fowl bike though....

Thank you. With that purchase you have removed the extreme temptation I had to go and see that bike.

Nice, Like an early Cub. Funny how front plates were removed off bikes later on, enforcements usually happen t'other way round. Also being '72 does that mean you save the £15 tax per year too! ;D Looks like fun, basically a bike with an engine

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Wahh I wanted this... why cant I have a estate!! Internet Seth pwns j00! Thanks for the offer Popup but I think I'm going to see if I can manage without a spare - certainly until I get it MOT'd. Haven't really got anywhere to put this one let alone another! I've been having a better look at it today and cleaning it up here and there. I put a new plug in and changed the oil. I'll probably check the tappet clearances and points gap too as I don't really want to be fighting against awkward running when taking my first rides. Also looked for anything that might be an MOT problem. Came across rather a lot of play at one pivot in the front suspension levers so whipped the wheel off for a better look. I suspect some rubber bushes have perished (and disappeared completely on one side) so I'll make up some replacements from nylon. Here's the one I left on the bike for ref. Its the pivot half way along that the bottom of the shock fits too. Here's the one I took off. I don't think the legendary Honda engineering would have intended for that bolt to be quite that loose a fit Can't see much else wrong. Much easier to work on than a car though!

Looks good as it is, nice worn look. I hesitate to use words like "patina". darn S'worth checking the headraces - front wheel off the deck, move the bars very slowly and feel for any roughness. Then grip the forx (not the wheel) and push/pull to see if there's slack. Rough = shot; smooth but with play can be adjusted up. Don't overtighten tho'... Also check swingarm. Probs with these mean dodgy handling. These and wheel brngs are fave MOT spots. It's worth renewing cables imo, dirt cheap and less danger of roadside strandage for the sake of a few squid. have fun!

Thanks for the pointers Bob. I had felt a bit of roughness on the front end (easier without the weight of the wheel on) and had wondered... Slater, you mean this? Well spotted. Just been out to look and its just a bit of the assorted curse word (dog hair maybe?) adoprning the bike. If you've seen somewhere else let me know!
