Kinda rare down here too!,I've seen maybe two on the road and some wally just paid a stupid sum of cash for one about a month ago.($20,000) .They came out in the early 80's,my neibour in NZ bought one in 1983. In NZ they were Isuzu Piazza, here they are Holden piazza and i think the yanks had them as Opel(?) The engine is a low perf(even though it's turbo) Isuzu, you should be able to get a more powerful engine from J land 2nd hand.Although the real hot set up here for the little Isuzus is the SR20DET. That lotus handling sticker is from a indonesian Proton isn't it?.i don't recal l Lotus doing handling setups for anything much back then and cortinas were another decade earlier. Might be like those ///AMG badges for $5.00 on ebay...

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

What a bargain!!! I think Lotus did tweak the handling on the Piazza - in the UK market at least... Weren't Lotus owned by GM back then? Maybe they still are... not sure on that one... I really like them - pretty rare nowadays, it'd be a shame to hack it up and put the innards into a Chevette or similar (however, that would be uber-cool)

The Lotus link is TRUTH!! I think the cars were revised with the "Lotus touch" around 1988. Don't forget that Lotus was part of GM for a time. (see also: Lotus Carlton)

Sorry PhoenixC but I've only ever seen 1 Piazza 'in the metal' and that was at a service station so sadly I've never had the opportunity to have a good crawl around under one. They have exactly the same rear track as a Chevette (unsurprisingly) and it may interest you to know that if you stick the axle from your 'spares car' on ebay (with a few suitably selected keywords in the description like Chevette HS HSR Rally LSD discs axle not manta A B) it could reach anything up to £500 (I know a guy that sold a manta A axle with discs and I think it was a Quaife diff for £467).

Yes Lotus did sort out the suspension set up and I think the brakes as both were terrible on the earlier cars supposedly as a favour for isuzu supplying the turbo engine for the FWD elan. They also did a Lotus handling Isuzu Big Horn (Trooper)
Both of the ones I have are Lotus Handling editions.

I was outbid on a black automatic piazza (it went for 385 i think i was outbid by a fiver) and it definetely had an LSD. The same car came up for sale 6 weeks later and was going for 150 sheets and when I checked out his feedback he was buying and selling chevette parts so I asked him if it had an LSD he replied that he thought so but would have to check. He finally got back to me 10 minutes before the auction end to say that it hadnt. I had though at the time that he must have swapped the complete axle from a chevette but the suspension mounts are different and I have found out sine that the diff itself is exactly the same as a manta B but with a lower ratio so I guess he just swapped the diffs ;D

mmmmmmmm Lotus carlton, why does no one on here own one? Owing to them costing £10,000 upwards. Even for a skanky one. Maybe? ;D I understand that LC owners have no end of problems with their cars. Because so few were made the process of making them was never really productionised and the parts never underwent proper development so some parts are quite flawed in design (bell housings I believe) and all the sparers are used up so owners cars are often off the road until Vauxhall can get round to making a new batch of spares (if indeed they ever do for some parts! I imaginr that this will lead in the near future to most LCs being fitted with non standard parts in an effort to get them back on the road!
