Did anyone else see the feature on MAM last night about Cannonball 8000? (Chelsea to Monaco)..... Now this got me thinking (again - if only I could think this hard about my work!), how cool would it be to have a Retro version of the run? I could just see it now.......cruising down to Monaco in the Rocco, in the middle of a string of J-tin, Beetles, Van's, Kadett's, Shuv's, Bemmer's etc, it would be so [Bill & Ted]excellent[/Bill & Ted] I just went to the official Cannonball website, but it doesn't show much the actual Europe event is - just shows the £255 holding deposit. I know the World Cannon ball is $10k + $400 holding deposit Maybe, we could either suggest this to RCM (although having it open to everyone who reads RCM might not be a good idea), or maybe we could try and organise something from here. I mean, not the luxry hotels and dinner parties, more like tent + BBQ!...........any thoughts?

you've got competition - there's the staples to naples run that the guys bought BenzBoy's mazda wagon for, that's not strictly retro but it's the *ahem* cheaper end of the market.
then there's the RCM trip that was run last year, across france if i recall.

this is a top idea, drive fantastic roads all day, then party all night (well until a sensible time that would not affect the following days driving ) ps, is anyone up still up for the London driving, ace cafe, midnight meet up?

There something like this already, Bournemouth to Dakar or something, the rules being that the car must be bought for something like £150. I remember seeing that on M&M quite a while back, I just cant remember what its called :/ ...time to hit the google search

i reckon it would be better to organise one on here. that way we don't have to spend a fortune and we can do it with people we know (sort of). plus the route can be whatever we want

I'd love to do it, but the chance of getting 20 + days off work to do it would be tough.

could always do it over a week. I'm well up for the idea as iv always wanted to do the gumball3000 but cant afford it. plus id prefer the idea of a more road trip based rally (ie everyone helping each other hippie style )rather than a race.

I was actually on the first 'cannonball run' (not the film!) it was all very interesting, but I won't be doing it again.

Sounds like a wicked idea! Might give me a use for the mk1 Datsun bluebird I'm thinking of buying... What a cruiser, in a mini-cab sort of way! ;D
