so what cars did your Dad (or mum!) have when you were growing up? We had:
Austin 1100 2xTriumph Vitesse Hillman Hunter Mk1 Escort Vauxhall Ventora Mk2 Cortina GT 2 Allegros - a bottle green "quartic" wheel one and a 1750 "3", beige with brown vinyl roof! E21 BMW 316SE
Some interesting stuff in there! Must dig some pics out... The ventora was huge but was incredibly slow and thirsty, we didn't have it long!

Befire I was born my dad had several cars I know about, including a hot FJ Holden with a 186S motor, Saginaw 4 speed gearbox, Monaro diff and disc front suspension etc. He also had a hot HR Holden with triple carbs and a motor that idles at 1500rpm. There was a Morris 1100, a Minor, and astring of Peugeots mostly 403 wagons. Also a Sunbeam Alpine and numerous series 2 and 3 Land Rovers along with a Jeep or two and a 4x4 racing Nissan Patrol with an American V8 in it. And a Hilman Hunter automatic wagon he would rather forget. After I was born, a Renault 16TS, a Renault 10, a Peugeot 504 1.8litre, a 504 2.0litre, a 504 dieseltweaked for 120mph , a Volvo 164E (lovely car that was, 150mph ;D), then a move to a remote country property meant a 4x4, so a Daihatsu F20, a Nissan Ptrol, a Toyota Landcruiser, then a move to the farm meant a Toyota Dyna truck, the family grew so we got a Toyota HIace van, then a Landcruiser wagon with 10 seats, a Mazda van ( ) now dead :Da Holden ute which I learned to drive in, a NIssan E20 van which died of lead replacement petrol (Grrrr......) and finally teh hot Transit.

My Mum had a Mini Clubman until the subframes rotted out!
My Dad also had a Firenza and an early Spitfire in his mid-life crisis!

The second being a volvo p1800 on dunlop wheels in a dark blue, looked mint.

OOOOOO blimey A MK1 Transit Minibus LOL The reason to laugh is that it would have been an English Transit, complete with either a wimpy V4 of a tiny diesel. Now, if it had been an Australian Transit, with a 130hp 3.3 inline six...........Who'se laughing now? and with a couple of hours and some spanners you can replace the engine with the 160hp 4.1 six, identical apart from capacity but not offered in Transits. We went one better by using the crossflow alloy head version and using a 4 speed box too, but the crossflow is a curse word to fit in a Mk1. It is too wide and you have to cut and weld a little box to fit around the inlet manifold and "adjust" the heater intake plenum to clear the carby. The upside is that you now have power oversteer in 3rd gear whenever you want it ;D ;D

I used to work for a local Ford Dealer and the boss had a Mk2 Transit minibus that he used for picking bits up in - he was into old motorbikes and had quite a collection.
It had a 3.0 V6 stuffed into it, blimey it was quick! Absolutely hilarious outdragging hot hatchbacks away from the lights or steaming past people on the motorway, practically forcing them out of the way!

Our inline sixes have more power potential than the V6. Our 4.1 Transit has power oversteer there for the asking in 3rd gear.

Rmad - Good spot, that's a DAF 44 hiding behind the Cortina. The cortina was later replaced with a Volvo 66 (Daf66 built by volvo after they bought them out) which was not the greatest move he's ever made!
