Right i've long been a fan of the Gran Turismo series of racing games for the Playstation. A while back a mate of mine acquired a wheel and pedals to play the game with. As i was sat on his sofa with the wheel attached to the ironing board in front of me i couldn't help thinking how cool it would be if i was in a proper car seat, and the wheel and pedals were mounted securely in the correct position, or even adjustable...
I had been thinking about doing this for a while and i picked up a cheap wheel and pedals to set the ball rolling. Had a couple days off work this week so on wednesday night i got on to my long suffering pal down at BiAS Autoservices and explained it was time for another of my hare-brained schemes to come forward.
On Thursday night the BiAS HQ became a flurry of activity as myself, Cheeqi and Captain Chaos set to work on the Race Pod. We used a keyboard wall mount, the mech from an adjustable office chair, the seat out of the Civic ESI we broke for my Gen2 Vtec project (more on this later), and a large piece of MDF with an aquarium painted on it (don't' ask).
first all the essentials were laid out to get an idea of what goes where
assembling the steering wheel mount
assembling the pedal box mount
things get a bit out of control as the Captain attempts to drill me a new ear...
right got it all assembled, now to get it over to my place and test it out! Come on Cheeqi, get out of the pod now...
just about got it in the lift at my place lol
yes that should work just there
and here it is in action!
Much much thanks goes out to Cheeqi and the Captain for their combined efforts, come over anytime for a race guys ;D
