Howdy folks, Satan Incarnate here. Hope you gents (and ladies) are doing well.
I have a question that I hope you can help me with: I haven't yet got any retro tin, but am hoping to indoctrinate myself in this devilish activity sometime soon. However, all is not sweetness and light, for when God cast me out of heaven he also took most of my ready cash, so I'm on a tight budget, probably around 500 quid or so.
I'm a fan of old Fords, VWs and Japanese stuff, but, being Satan and all, I'm open to any good ideas. The most important thing here is that it's real retro stuff - not just a 1988 Escort 1.4 GL. I'd prefer pre '73 for road tax reasons (like I said, I'm skint), and it has to be insurable and ready to drive at the time of purchase.
It might also help if I mention that cheap and ready parts availability would be a plus point - so better scratch that 1949 Tucker Torpedo off the list.
Sadly motor maintenance wasn't in the curriculum at Devil School so I'm a poxy mechanic, but I have a fine upstanding mate who I reckon I can bribe to undertake some of the donkey work in exchange for beer and fags, a/k/a the breakfast of champions.
So, what I actually mean by all this drivel is: With about 500 quid to buy something proper retro that's useable and reliable, what would you go for?
Many thanks in advance
